Eye Stye Definition
A stye is typically harmless. It is an eyes infection. It is a infection of a bacteria and forming at the base of an eyelash, or on or inside the eyelid. The bacteria which are involved are usually
Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria also cause impetigo.
Therefore if the patient is ill by impetigo, then chances of eye sty is very high. In the medical science a sty is known as hordeolum. This disease does not affect the vision. Sometimes tiny pimples are developing in the eye. Styes are very common. So persons of all ages can develop a sty, and males and females are equally affected. This condition is seen more often in children than in adults.
There are two types of sties:
* external (on the outside of the eyelid) and
* Internal (on the underside of the eyelid).
Causes Styes are seen
as small bumps on the eyelids. Styes are usually harmless and will go away after several days on their own as your body fights the infection. A stye is caused by an infection in the sebaceous
or sweat glands in the eyelid. This infection is usually caused by bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus. Styes are usually burst on their own and then heal within a few days. In order to prevent
spreading or further infection, it is crucial that a stye be left to rupture on its own.
Symptoms The common
symptoms of styes are-
* Redness on the eyes
* slight pain and tenderness on the eyes
* Swelling of a certain area of eyes
* Tearing of the eye
* Discomfort when blinking
* Sensitivity to light
* Eye may feel gritty
* Burning in the eye
* Mucous discharge in the eye
The symptoms of a stye may resemble other conditions or medical problems. Always consult your child's physician for a diagnosis.
Treatment
Drug therapy can be prescribed by your health care provider. Do not use any medicine without checking with your health care provider. Mostly, drug which we have to use are an antibiotic eye drops/ointment and, occasionally, an antibiotic taken by mouth. Carefully follow the directions prescribed by your health care provider.
Home remedies are also good for eye styes. So bathing the eye for 10 minutes several times a day. And use cotton wool soaked in warm water, may help the stye to come to a head, and the pus to discharge. Do not try to squeeze a stye, as it usually drains by itself. The best way to prevent eyes sties is simply to wash your hands regularly and avoiding touching your eyes. It's especially important for children, who may rub their eyes when tired or under stress.
Contact lenses should not be worn during infection or drainage of a stye. Your eye care provider may recommend replacing your contact lenses after the stye has healed to prevent recurrence or spread of the infection.
Home Remedies For Eye
Stye If you have a painful red bump on your eyelid, then the stye the limit! A stye occurs when the oil glands around the eyelid get infected and inflamed. Some natural remedies may help relieve the discomfort.
* Place a handful of fresh parsley in a soup bowl. Pour a cup of boiling water over the parsley and let it steep for 10 minutes. Soak a clean washcloth in the hot parsley water, lie down, put the cloth on your closed lids and relax for 15 minutes. Repeat the procedure before bedtime. Parsley water is also good for eliminating puffiness around the eyes.
* Drink dandelion tea to rid the body of bacteria that can lead to sties.
* Moisten a regular (nonherbal) tea bag, put it on the closed eye with the stye, bandage it in place and leave the bandage on overnight. Hopefully, by morning it will be "bye-bye stye."
* Wet a tea bag. Place over your eye for 10 to 15 min. The tea will draw the sty. You can use any type of tea bag.
* Boil a handful of acacia leaves in two cups of water to make a decoction and apply it as compress on the eyelids
Go for the Gold
* Rub the eye stye three times with a gold wedding ring. When we started compiling information for this book, we decided not to use any silly-sounding, superstition-based remedies. This remedy for stye, however, comes from so many reputable sources that it must have some credibility.
Fortunately for us, but unfortunately for research purposes, neither of us has had a stye since we began working on this web site, so we haven't been able to test the wedding-ring remedy
ourselves.
Banish Stye with
Bancha
* Roasted-bancha leaves are used to make a popular Japanese tea-these tea bags are available at most US health food stores. Steep a tea bag in hot water for 10 minutes and add 1 teaspoon of
sea salt (also available at health food stores as well as supermarkets). Saturate a cotton pad in the lukewarm liquid and apply it to your closed eye, keeping it there for 10 minutes at a time, three times a day.
* In addition to-or instead of-the roasted??? blancha tea bag remedy, dab on some castor oil several times throughout the day until the sty disappears.
Stye Prevention Lydia went to school with a girl named Madeline whose nickname was "Stye." She always seemed to have a stye coming or going.
If you're like Madeline and are prone to stye, prepare a strong cup of burdock-seed tea every morning and take 1 tablespoon before each meal and 1 tablespoon at bedtime.

RE: GOLD TREATMENT
Hi, every now and then i will get a sty.....
As for the Gold ring treatment my mom was the first one to tell me to rub it gently on my eye ( first clean the ring) . And to tell you the truth i always use this treatment. I find that only yellow gold works tho. First of all its cold and smooth it really sooths the eye. Second after i use it my sty goes away in usually 1 day.
I always seem to develop
I always seem to develop styes after wearing mascara. My stye is at the swelled up stage now and I've been trying the teabag remedy since yesterday. Hope it works.
New Method
Dear Stye-victims,
I call it the "Albanian Pillow Stye Be Gone". You take an end of a ordinary pillow and you just cross your eye with the pillow end slightly touching your eye whilst praying it'll go away. My gf won't try it but I assume all of you, this is legit.
Sincerely,
The Albanian Stye Pro
p.s. We should stop calling this a stye infection -really, we should.
Someone said that a Gold
Someone said that a Gold ring is effective in treating the sty; well actually it does not treat the sty rather it decreases the swelling and that gold ring is cold. I am a graduating Nursing student and we have studied that applying cold compress will prevent swelling but it should be left only less than 30 mins to avoid rebound phenomena. Then apply warm compress to promote blood circulation and also for about less than 30 mins. Do not, do not, do not treat immediately with an antibiotic, try first the cold-and-warm application. :)
teabag worked
I had a painful stye develop last evening. I used a Lipton black tea bag soaked in hot water. I put it on my eye for 10 minutes or so (until it got cold). This morning, the stye is almost gone, but most importantly, it is not painful anymore.
Thanks for the tea bag suggestion. I would have tried the gold, but have none:(
use pee.... morning pee in

There is no way I am putting
There is no way I am putting urine anywhere near my eye.

This article, be it
This article, be it well-written or not, was utterly offending to me--a thirteen year old stye sufferer for the first time. It seemed each 'remedy' as you call it, made jokes to the issue. Each was... humorous, I suppose you might say.
Might I add it made me very self-concious. I'm a first timer to this 'stye business', and I was recently told about the increasingly painful brown spot forming on my top eyelid, right above my eyelashes. I played around for a few minutes, suggesting it was simply another new-comer eye, jutting out from my own. Of course, being as curious as I am, I resorted to the Internet, hoping to find some new information on this topic I wasn't so sure about.
The first thing I did was check out the images. I was welcomed by a hauntingly scary picture of a GIANT RED DOT on some dude's eye. And, shocker here, folks, I was naturally freaked out.
But I pressed backspace, and began to read some articles. I found another one--much like your own, in fact, that gave off some haunting and vivid words, yet humorous all the same.
Now, I'm the most paranoid chick in the world, and I just want to know how I can get this unimaginable thing off my eye! Spring Break's over and tomorrow I've gotta get back to school.
Though I will praise you, for one of the most well-written pieces about eye sties I've ever read.
Peace.
Thanks.

I never tried a golden ring
I never tried a golden ring to rub against my eye with sty. It is really painful to rub it against my sty. I usually use antibacterial ointments. And I keep my eyes clean for always. Eyeliners and mascara can sometimes cause sty. gold buying events
i am sitting here
i am sitting here researching cures my sty is my first and ooohhh does it hurt..... i will definetely be trying the tea bag suggestion, i was also told you could rub a penny on the sty or bacon grease, alas i tried neither for they both sounded icky anyway, wish you all luck in your adventures of relief of sty pain. the little stinkers do hurt. thanks
stys
Today I saw my oculist for a sty on the inside of my lower eyelid. He said to continue with hot compresses (not boiling, of course) about six times a day. Also I clean my lids of the crust that also occurs with stys. I use a cotton swab swished through very warm running water and gently wash the lids at the lash line. I try to be sanitary, washing my hands with soap and water first. I try to roll the cotton swab so that I don't go over the same area of the lash more than once with that swab. Yes, I go through a lot of swabs. The eye doctor said my sty should go away by itself by following the above procedures.
sty
I'm getting ready to try the teabag method, as opposed to my mothers recommendation. She said to boil milk then let it cool, then take the skin that and put it in my eye several times a day until it's gone. I am, however, curious about the "pee" treatment. Are you serious? how did someone come up with the idea to put urine in their eye?
Eye StYe
For styes use baby shampoo on soft wet cloth, pull down eyelid and gently wipe to clean. This from an opthimologist)
stye
I have the worst stye I have ever had. It is under the top lid and I can constantly feel it poking my eyeball. If it doesn't go away soon, I am going to go crazy. I used the teabag, the warm compress and have even tried the gold ring trick. I use eyewash and stymie ointment. I'm sure it is all helping, just not fast enough!!
