ACNE (PIMPLES) Acne is a common problem faced by almost all teen-agers and youth. What is acne and why do we get them. Acne is actually caused because of hormone imbalance. Your skin breaks out because of a hormone called testosterone. Both men and women have testosterone in their systems. In fact, did you know that in order to make testosterone, boys bodies have to make female hormones first? If you have acne, you haven't got abnormal levels of testosterone. You've got skin that reacts abnormally to this hormone. You start producing testosterone around the time you start sprouting body hair. Testosterone tells glands in your skin, called sebaceous glands, to produce oily stuff called sebum. To add to the problem the inside of the tubes that hold each hair become gummy and get partially blocked - giving you blackheads. Put together if sebum blocks the tubes --- you have big acne.
So go to your pharmacist or doctor to get your acne treated. Here are a few tips that will help you know how to treat acne at home.
1. If you have red angry looking acne, don't touch it. If you squeeze now, all you'll do is force the contents deeper into the skin that will make matters worst. And all you'll end up with is redder, angrier acne than you had before. Don't do it.
2. If you have a yellow custard top? Go for it. These beauties CAN be squeezed but there's an art to it. Here's how. Wash your hands thoroughly to avoid trouble and infection. Put a tissue over your finger. Why? Because you want the contents of the spot on the tissue, not splattered all over the mirror. Using the side of your thumb and the end of your finger, very gently start to squeeze. Don't whatever you do, use your nails as this will damage your skin. Stop when you're applying a lot of pressure and nothing is happening and you see clear fluid, rather than yellow grotty stuff and the spot begins to bleed. When you've finished dab it with antiseptic. Once the custard bit is out, the spot will heal more quickly than an unsqueezed yellow top would, providing that you now leave it well alone. Now wash your hands again.
3. Whiteheads and blackheads. If acne is left untreated they may cause this problem. Here the rule is if they're black, squeeze but if they're small, white raised lumps leave them alone. All that stuff about clean hands, tissues and stopping if nothing is happening or you see blood, apply here too.
Tips for acne treatment 1. DON'T TRY TO WASH IT AWAY
Acne isn't caused by dirt. In fact people with oily skin have cleaner skin than average because they wash it more often. But it's a fact that washing too much can make acne worse because it makes the skin dry and sore. So, wash no more than twice a day, using mild soap and water. If you have patches of dry skin, don't worry about putting moisturizer on. It won't make your acne worse. If you're still concerned, use an oil free moisturizer.
2. DON'T NUKE 'EM
There are lots of over the counter creams, gels, lotions and potions. Most contain a powerful bleaching agent called benzoyl peroxide. You'll find the strength written on the label. You might be tempted to go straight for the highest sort, working on the 'let's nuke 'em principle. The likely result is that you'll irritate your skin like mad. It may also go all dry and scaly on you. But if you still are willing to bleach then use the mild one.
3. MAKE A DATE - THE TWO MONTH RULE
If you have been using over the counter remedies for two months and there is no real improvement in your spots, this is the moment to go and make an appointment with your doc.
4. YOUR DOCTOR - THE TWO MONTH RULE
The thing you are most likely to be given by the doctor is a prescription for antibiotics. These will either be topical (which means something you put on your skin) or tablets you have to take every day. Whatever treatment your doctor or pharmacist recommends, follow the instructions carefully and keep using for at least two months. There should be a noticeable improvement by this time. If not, go back to discuss other possible treatments Antibiotics are perfectly safe to take. You should take them for at least two months and then go back to your doc. If they seem to be working, he will probably tell you to keep taking them and give you some more. If they aren't doing their stuff, don't despair - he has loads of other spot busters in his black bag.
5. YOU ARE NOT AN ALIEN - BUT JUST BE PATIENT
Hundreds of thousands of teenagers seek help for acne. You are not alone. You are not an alien. And if people really care about you, they don't even notice your acne, however bad you think they are. But you will need to be patient. Most treatments take time to work. At least two months. And some treatments, like antibiotics will work well but may have to be taken for months, or even years.
6. THE MONTHLY CURSE... OR EXAMS
Acne does tend to get worse just before a period. It's because there is a surge in hormone levels at this time. But boys don't get away lightly either. Being hot and sweaty (particularly after sports like football) makes acne worse. And for everyone, stress - particularly at exam times - is a cue for a mega breakout. This is normal - and of course, even more reason for feeling stressed. Go chill. They'll get better - promise.
7. WATCH WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN AND HAIR
Some beauty products are big no-nos. These include pomades and defrizzing agents for hair that tend to cause an outcrop of blackheads along the hairline and some of the heavier cosmetics. And be wary of suntan oils. Not all will make you break out, but some may. Try a friend's first before you buy. By the way, the sun might dry up acne and a tan might hide them, but your skin is still vulnerable in the sun and needs protection.
8. CARRY ON KISSING
You can't catch acne during kissing - go for it!
9. CARRY ON EATING CHOCOLATE
It's a myth that eating chocolate and fried foods causes acne. However, eating a good diet improves your general well-being and this is reflected in your skin.
Common Questions asked about acne problem Does wearing make up cause acne?
It is not necessary that wearing make up causes acne. Acne is caused because of hormonal imbalance mostly during puberty. But you have to take special care while you apply make up and thereafter if you have acne. Make sure you wash any make up tools, including sponges and brushes as often as possible as these become a breeding ground for bugs which can cause your spots to pop up. Stop wearing make up if you have too many spots and you can resume after you have treated them. Don't forget to clean the make up after you come home and and make sure you cleanse your face properly each night.
Do skin toner and moisturizer cure acne?
One thing that you need to know is acne is not caused by dirt, so no amount of cleaning and toning is going to get rid of them. So for treating acne you must consult your doctor and eat lots of healthy food and drink lots of water. That is the natural way to keep you face spot free.
Is it ok to do facial?
It can be a real treat to have the facial done, as they can be very relaxing and make you feel properly pampered. However, you should be aware that they should not be used to help 'treat' spots, as this can be quite dangerous if the beauty therapist is not trained. Sometimes a beauty therapist will also squeeze out any spots and blackheads that if it's not done properly, may cause a bigger problem than before.
What is the best way to cover up spots?
Foundation is okay to use and may give you more confidence if you've got a hot date, but remember to look for oil-free one. Whatever you use to put on your skin, wash your hands or sponge before applying foundation.

Hiya,
I'm 15 I don't have acne but I get spots all the time they never seem to
Clear up and look red and angry. I know how upsetting it is for all of you and
How it can really ruin your confidence. My advice is just to come face to face
With your problem and accept yourself for the way you are because
Reality is you can't change who you are so instead of worrying about it
Enjoy life and cope the best way you know how, I'm not saying give up
Just keep trying and I'm sure one day you will be happy vwith yourself.
Trying to eat healthily is a good idea and just keep trying different products,
Poeple can give you advice and things to try but only you can accept yourself
So DON'T GIVE UP

Proactiv...other acne stuff
Okay so Proactiv can work, but it doesn't work for everyone. I used it as they told me too and I did it once in the morning and once at night and let me tell you, that stuff left me with dry and dark spots everywhere (benzoyl peroxide was too strong for me). What I started to do was the following:
For those bad breakout times:
Morning:
Wash with either Dove or Aveeno
Throughout the day (as needed....or as is practical):
Use an astringent to keep oil away
Re moisturize/sun protect throughout the day
Night:
Wash with Proactiv, and do the whole 3 step thing (because of a bad breakout)
And every week I exfoliate and do a clay mask or clarifying mask (St Ive's Apricot scrub or similar scrub)
For normal times:
Morning:
Wash with St. Ives (the Apricot scrub with the Salicylic Acid)
Use Witch hazel to tone
Moisturize/Sun Protect
Evening:
Wash with St. Ives (the Apricot scrub with the Salicylic Acid)
Use Witch hazel to tone
****Spot Treat (If necessary....rarely) using that leftover refining mask from proactiv (because I am not repurchasing Proactiv....just making use of what's left over) or using either toothpaste or an acne cream containing salicylic acid.
Weekly during my evening routine, I will sometimes use that Proactiv repairing lotion all over...not daily, but weekly.
Basically, all I'm saying is get a good routine that goes through the following steps:
1. Clarify and exfoliate lightly (washing with the Dove does it for me)
2. Tone (Refine Pores...Witch Hazel)
***2a. Treat
3. Moisturize/ Sun Protect (Oil Free, Non pore clogging cream or gel)
And if you have uberoily skin like myself, you will need to keep the oil away more often (without overdoing it).
I hate acne
hey, i was just wondering what scne atchually is..? Is it full face spots, on cheeks, forehead and everywhere? or just t - zone?
I personally, hardly ever get spots on my ceeks ( touch wood), and tend to get alot round my mouth and chin and forehead and between my eyebrows, which is the worst ever!! I use neutrogene visibly clear exfoliating wash, and it does atchually work, until about a week..then it becomes SHIT! \i use it night and morning, and i dont know what to do..? Whats involved in cleasing your face, because everyone always says ' clease your face' bubt what does that even mean..???? I also use johnsons moisturiser, but i think it just goes into the pores and makes more spots, i tried witch hazel and tea tree oil..and both were no good for me. i Was thinking of trying drinking loads of water and lemon and water..?
But Please could someone answer my questions..???
And suggest anything<
thanks, :)
READ ME!!!
ight people i made it all the way through the ages of 16 17 and 18 without having any ance problems WHAT SO EVER. BUT towards the end of my senior year i started SMOKING. no good!!!! if you smoke and want to get rid of acne stop NOW it deteriates your skin which doesnt even sound like a good thing (and its unatractive anyways making your eyes, lips and lip areas darker and taking that glow away from your skin) right now i am trying the new Neutrogena Skin Id, it works ok but it makes my skin dry so if your trying any kind of acne product read the label and literally use each bottle once a day for about 2 weeks. HOWEVER if you are using acne products but still eating junk food, smoking, not sleeping right and anything else bad for you. its not going to work properly. i have been reading a lot of things to help and these are just some thing that i have learned... remember some of these things and watch it clear up quickly.
1. regular sleeping paterns
2. dont wash your face that often, twice a day is enough
3. work out/sweat. go for a run, sit in a hot tub, or sit in a sauna. sweating will help clear out pores
4. DRINK ONLY WATER!!!
5. when drying your face.. DAB it, dont rub or scrub it will irritate your skin further
6. dont stress about it to much/think about. i feel as though your mental thinking plays a huge part. in example if you could magically forget that you had acne and there were no mirrors it would simply go away, unfortunatley thats impossible BUT try not to think about it as much as possible and dont get down over it even though its tough
7. DIET! what you eat is critical to acne. eat healthier. salads, fruits and vegetable, whole grain bread.. just healthy things
8. DO NOT pick or rub or squeeze your pimples, causing further irritation
9. if you are going to pop your pimples do not use your fingernails, there is a lot of unkown/foregin dirt inside of them which is obviously not good
10. BE HEALTHY!!!!! if your a healthy person with a healthy lifestyle then ance has no reason to appear right guys?!
im still fighting acne but had made huge changes in my life to get rid of it. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! I KNOW ITS TOUGH!
Please help me out!
hi i had acne since i was 14. I tried many stuff like proactive...it does help since it didn't work for me. I also tried a lot of stuff but it didn't work. I went to my doctor and for 5 months now i've been using benzoyl peroxide 5% of it and it does help but it doesn't seem to get rid of the acne for good. Do you think i should ask my doctor to change it to a stronger one?
Soap
I've noticed that soap helps alot but the only problem is it makes your face dry.
I tried cleaning my face with soap and the next day my pimples were practically gone but I noticed that I had dry skin around my nose and on my forehead.
I stopped cleaning my face for a few days and the dry skin dissapeared and so did the pimples:S
I also put on alchol on the pimples and they arn't that noticable anymore.
OH and I'm drinking water;)
But I get REALLY crazy when I see a single pimple.
I have a question though-
How do you get rid of the pimples that are under your skin?
Their not opened at all so I'm guessing alchol dosn't do anything...
AND I used Neutragena Deep Clean and I noticed that made my skin REALLY oily even though it's oil free and more pimples appeared but it DOES make your skin softer.
It might work on some people like my cousin but it didn't work for me so I suggest testing that one first if a friend has it.

acne ..help...!
well like theres this girl i like nd i dont think she likes me cuz of my acne and redness on my face. so if sumone can give me sum ways 2 clear it up ill be so happy :D
please read! hope it can help
well im 15 and just started getting acne really REALLY bad! & faaaar i hate it! its like you dont even wana go outside, or to school or out anywhere cause your so self-concious about it. its like your pimples are screaming "look at me!" alot of it is due to stress, because i recently just moved to another country away from family and i know it effected my skin. i think the best thing for you to do is relax, its algood. so many people get acne at one stage in their life, or live with it. i mean i never ever ever had acne before then suddenly i break out ALL the time. i always live in the past remembering my clear skin before & i hate when i start clearing up then suddenly break out again? and it definitely isnt due to genetics because all my older brothers have perfect skin & so did my parents when they were younger. but to be honest dont worry, be happy .. you just need to keep your stress levels down. so what if the guy doesnt like you, so what if theres a test coming up, just be the person you are & im sure itll reflect more in your skin. i advise whoever is a sufferer or acne to not give in to it or give in to using a million products cause your not helping yourself at all. not all acne products will help you for eg. proactiv. for some people it works, for some it doesnt. for me it didnt but for you it might? its all about trial and error. there is no quik-fix! but there definitely will be a way for you to get rid of your acne, & that is a promise. even though proactiv may not work, the booklet is very helpful! it will help you to PREVENT acne by having a healthier lifestyle - for eg. 1. clensing, 2. toning, 3. moisturising (just gotta find the right product for you), not touching your face, not using oil on your hair/ keeping hair out of your face, having a healthy diet, sleeping atleast 7 hours everyday, using on-condegenic (oil-free) products, not exposing yourself to too much sun and wearing sunscreen and oil-free products. i actually havent been to the doctors for acne medication but that could help aswell. i think milk products for me cause irritation in my skin & cause further breakouts but hey, thats just me. try everything! also putting a clenser (proactiv, that loreal one, any that is oil-free and it seems to aready help you a bit) put some clenser on a tissue and tape the tissue to your pimple/pimples, keep it on the whole night and wash your face the next day with warm water (dont use a face cloth) then repeat the same thing the next day with a tissue but this time using toothpaste not clenser. a really good remedy for reducing redness is an egg (i know, what the? AN EGG?!?! lol) its called "dermabrasion with egg" look it up on google or just crack an egg so your left with the shell and very carefully peel the like skin stuff in the egg. its alright if it rips, put it on your pimples or the really red ones. leave it on for 15 minutes and it should dry up a bit, then take it off (if you have heaps of pimples you can use more then one egg, i suggest you dont throw away the egg white and yolk though lol) it really helps, just follow everything else and get the help you need that suites YOU and your acne will clear up and you'll have the skin you deserve.
get rid of pimple
Nice artical
I really appreciate this artical
Use a mild soap
mentain a routine
remove dead cells
must take a good sleep
Okay, seriously, WTF!!!
I am using Proactiv and have been using it for about two years now. My acne comes and goes but it never goes for long. I don't know if people read these but i thought i'd give it a try, to see if i'd get any advice. I stopped drinking milk about 6 months ago and it seemed to help but not as much as i would have liked. WHAT CAN I DO?!?!?! I don't want to be embarrassed to talk to people anymore...
how igot rid of my acne and lightnening scars
First i use ambi a (green bar of soap, sells for like $2.00) i rinse with a warm towel. then i use clean and clears version of proactive. Its a three stage treatment (selling for $20.00). I use the acne control cleanser first then rinse with a warm rag. After that i dap a cotton ball with some alcohol and witch hazel (this ensures my face is absoulutle clean). I let my face air dry then apply the clean and clear moisturizer and then spot treatment. I also when to see a derma and i got 2.5% hydrocortisone and 1% clindamycin and 8% hydroquinone (which is for the removal off scars. it is working i might add.) I have been using the this formula for a month now and my skin is clearer, not pimples, and my scars are fading.
p.s. i did change my diet as well eating fruits in the morning and at night in conjuction with baking most of my foods and of course drinking lots of water.
p.p.s. try to mak sure each night before you go to bed that you pee is clear that is an indication of having low toxins in your system.
There are many natural
There are many natural ingredients you can use to help get rid of or prevent acne. Aloe vera has been known to help quite a bit. Try to use 100% aloe vera. Studies have shown that green tea and tea tree oil are also very helpful. I dab on hydrogen peroxide afte a pimple has opened up. It seems to help. If I have a bad pimple, I resort to using benzoyl peroxide in a 10% strength which is an over the counter medicine.
A guide explaining on identifying and eliminating acne.
If your acne is just made up off whiteheads.blackheads and maulpes i would sugest purchasing an aquagel that contains benol peroxyde, it work as a surface antibacterial and anti-inflametory, apply it once daily but do not use to much as it can cause drying and majior skin flaking (especially if you are allergic to it in which case i would recomend cease of using it, but it takes some time to get useed to it so dont stop using it after a couple of days if your skin beings to get a bit dry. If your acne if more inflamed and consites of pauples, pustules and mayble a nodual or too, visit your local GP or dermetolligist and they should prescribe you ethromycin/Tetrycline (both antibiotic s and can be takin oral of topically) and \or a retaniod such as tretanion (tretanion is a retanoid, a form of vitamin A which an helps to unblock pores and reduce inflamation). If your ance is severe or consitis mainly of noduals and cysts that maybe conjoind underneath the skin (acne conglobulata) then your dermetoligist will probably prescribe you isotretanoin (also known by the brand name accutane) , a powerfull drug described by many as "the acne wonder drug". Isotretanoin is to be taken orally once or twice a day for 20-60 weeks or up to 6 months, i does have some quite seroius side affect in some people, the most seroius :births defects in women if pregnat (should not be taken if pregnant under any circumstances) it can also raise the level of Triglycerides (a glyceride consiting of three fatty acids, very similar to cholestorol) in the bloodstream which is why paitients whith diabitites or heart deseases should be moniterd carefuly. Remember dont be afraid to book an ipointment if your acne is more than just whiteheads, blackheads and barley inflamed pimples or makes your feel depressed or makes your aviod social situaions pay your doctor of dermatoligst a visit Nomatter how bad your acne your can beat it! a little knowlage, a dermatoligist and some will power and that acne will be gone before your can say supercalafragalisticexpealidocous (you get the fukin point!)
PS do not be fooled by ads on tv that say they will clear up your acne in just weeks or nomatter how bad it is they can get rid of it, a great example of this is proactive it mainly consists of benzoly peroxide (hence the drying of skin) and salyaclic acid which can treat mild acne at best, it also contains a very carcinogenic (a substance cabable of causing cancer) ingredent called P d1) so i wouldent go wasting so much money on benzoyl peroxide as your local pharmacy probably sells a solution of it for about 5 to 15 dollars. Also washing your face too much can iritate acne causing to become more iflamed or even change, so wash your face twice a day with a mild soap or anti bacterial facial cleanser, also beware or moisterisers, do not apply them too much as this may lead to too much oil and\or a sebum overproduction , use a non comedagenic one that consists of hardly any oils. Oh an btw im only 13 years old and i know all this shit, dats what happens when you have a 2 year war with acne LOL.
even my friend...
my friend makes fun of me because of my acne... what do i do to get RID OF IT? does rubbing alcohol work?
ARTISTRY
I found something that helps me, maybe it will help u too. I did a Artistry skin type analysis & discovered that I have a Combination skin with an oily T-zone. so i got myself Artistry Blemish Control which works very well. Then I got Artistry products to Cleanse, Tone, Repair, Treat & Moisturise. WOW! It works wonders! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
I always recommend to my
I always recommend to my clients the use of African black soap to rid of acne and frequent breakouts. For those not familiar with black soap, it is an organic soap whose lather is extremely beneficial to skin and hair care. 97% of my clients who've tried it, have reported positive results. You can get it from an number of online stores such as this one http://www.hosiaonline.com/african-black-soap.php but you have to be cautious as there are many black soap imitation on the market. Real black soap is brown, crumbly and soft. If ts tar black and hard, it not real.
very well written article.

my age is 15.... pimples on
my age is 15.... pimples on my face sometimes get reduced but it never gets away... so how can i prevent acne/pimples fully... is mastarbating also a reason for pimples???
Suffered for years
Hey, Might be a late response but I have a good method. See, I'm 16, nearly 17 and I got acne during my middle school years (around 11-12 years old). At first, it started off as spots on my forehead, then my forehead became overpopulated with them.
During the years in middle shcool, spots started appearing everywhere. Now im 16 and I have a handful on my face and a few on my chest and back. Ive tried sooooo many products from the doctors, nothing seemes to have worked. Plus, Im the sort of girl who prefers natural remedies. My method: Soap and water twice a day. Even in the morning, and not wearing makeup. Girls, wearing makeup dosen't give you acne, but it gives you horrrible whitheads (these are a BUGGER to get rid of...and it hurts >.<) and blackheads. Plus, using sun tans, lotions and god knows what, will cause breakouts. Just keep your skin fresh, wash it twice a day keep your hands clean and try to avoid having greasy hair over your face.
Don't waste money on the brands, it fades in time. Unless you have a medical problem like cystic acne then get it checked, if not, don't fret, it will fade. Its just the age.
Ive been using that method for 3 months and Its made a vast improvement. It works more on the back and chest too, the face will not go red after using it either becuase the soap (preferably use a mild one) will be sensitive and gentle with ingredients used to DEEP CLEAN skin. Rememeber that. The old soap and water method always works. Also drinking water will help the spots not to come back.
Hope I've helped XD
Nice Share. Thanks For
Nice Share. Thanks For Sharing This Info. By The way I also found another good stuff about how to get rid of acne here :

Some acne remidies
try putting toothpaste on your pimples. then you can put a band aid on it or just leave it, then get a good night sleep. (sleep with it on) then in the morning wash it off in the shower with warm water or with a washcloth and warm water. pat your face dry do not rub. try to sleep acne side up. this should reduce swelling.
another thing you could do is get and egg and separate egg whites and yolk. take the egg whites and rub it on your pimples to make a mask. keep this mask on for 15-20 minutes or until completely dry. when it is dry wash it off with warm water. pat skin dry do not rub.
another thing you can do is get honey and place it on your pimple then put a band aid on it. keep on over night then in the morning wash it off in the shower with warm water or with a washcloth and warm water. pat your face dry do not rub.
how do i get rid of these UGLY PIMPLES!!!!

I've been fighting the good
I've been fighting the good fight for 3 years now. First I was trying over the counter commercial brand stuff and that didn't do anything but dry up my face a bit. Im not even sure it really cleaned out my pores. When i first went to the dermatologist she i put me on Tazerac, a nightly face cream, and Activis, a face wash for twice a day use (9% BP, You may not need something this strong). This SIGNIFICANTLY reduced my acne and I went from having like, a forest of zits to only having about 2 or 3 at a time, and you cant even tell there pimples, and there non-existant when looking at my face from more than 3 feet away. She says that the remaining acne is a result of my pores getting clogged and the dirt and oil not being able to go anywhere, and she set me up for a therapeutic face treatment. A specialist works on my face, squeezing out the dirt that just needs a little help getting out. (Don't try at home, these guys know what there doing) So see if your doctor has a program like that. It very well may jump start your progress. You can try some of the home remedies on this site like soaking a cotton ball in salt water and holding it on the pimple for 3minutes. Let me know how it goes if you do do this.

The last couple of months I started getting acne right before my period and I'm 47 years old and have erectidle dysfunction problems. I have been under an extreme amount of stress though, going through a divorce. It was ironic that this article came out when it did. Only yesterday I was looking up natural ways to help with acne, never thinking it could be from stress. Order viagra without prescription to treat ed problems That's pretty bad. Anyone else notice the conflict here?
