ACNE (PIMPLES) Acne is a common problem faced by almost all teen-agers and youth. What is acne and why do we get them. Acne is actually caused because of hormone imbalance. Your skin breaks out because of a hormone called testosterone. Both men and women have testosterone in their systems. In fact, did you know that in order to make testosterone, boys bodies have to make female hormones first? If you have acne, you haven't got abnormal levels of testosterone. You've got skin that reacts abnormally to this hormone. You start producing testosterone around the time you start sprouting body hair. Testosterone tells glands in your skin, called sebaceous glands, to produce oily stuff called sebum. To add to the problem the inside of the tubes that hold each hair become gummy and get partially blocked - giving you blackheads. Put together if sebum blocks the tubes --- you have big acne.
So go to your pharmacist or doctor to get your acne treated. Here are a few tips that will help you know how to treat acne at home.
1. If you have red angry looking acne, don't touch it. If you squeeze now, all you'll do is force the contents deeper into the skin that will make matters worst. And all you'll end up with is redder, angrier acne than you had before. Don't do it.
2. If you have a yellow custard top? Go for it. These beauties CAN be squeezed but there's an art to it. Here's how. Wash your hands thoroughly to avoid trouble and infection. Put a tissue over your finger. Why? Because you want the contents of the spot on the tissue, not splattered all over the mirror. Using the side of your thumb and the end of your finger, very gently start to squeeze. Don't whatever you do, use your nails as this will damage your skin. Stop when you're applying a lot of pressure and nothing is happening and you see clear fluid, rather than yellow grotty stuff and the spot begins to bleed. When you've finished dab it with antiseptic. Once the custard bit is out, the spot will heal more quickly than an unsqueezed yellow top would, providing that you now leave it well alone. Now wash your hands again.
3. Whiteheads and blackheads. If acne is left untreated they may cause this problem. Here the rule is if they're black, squeeze but if they're small, white raised lumps leave them alone. All that stuff about clean hands, tissues and stopping if nothing is happening or you see blood, apply here too.
Tips for acne treatment 1. DON'T TRY TO WASH IT AWAY
Acne isn't caused by dirt. In fact people with oily skin have cleaner skin than average because they wash it more often. But it's a fact that washing too much can make acne worse because it makes the skin dry and sore. So, wash no more than twice a day, using mild soap and water. If you have patches of dry skin, don't worry about putting moisturizer on. It won't make your acne worse. If you're still concerned, use an oil free moisturizer.
2. DON'T NUKE 'EM
There are lots of over the counter creams, gels, lotions and potions. Most contain a powerful bleaching agent called benzoyl peroxide. You'll find the strength written on the label. You might be tempted to go straight for the highest sort, working on the 'let's nuke 'em principle. The likely result is that you'll irritate your skin like mad. It may also go all dry and scaly on you. But if you still are willing to bleach then use the mild one.
3. MAKE A DATE - THE TWO MONTH RULE
If you have been using over the counter remedies for two months and there is no real improvement in your spots, this is the moment to go and make an appointment with your doc.
4. YOUR DOCTOR - THE TWO MONTH RULE
The thing you are most likely to be given by the doctor is a prescription for antibiotics. These will either be topical (which means something you put on your skin) or tablets you have to take every day. Whatever treatment your doctor or pharmacist recommends, follow the instructions carefully and keep using for at least two months. There should be a noticeable improvement by this time. If not, go back to discuss other possible treatments Antibiotics are perfectly safe to take. You should take them for at least two months and then go back to your doc. If they seem to be working, he will probably tell you to keep taking them and give you some more. If they aren't doing their stuff, don't despair - he has loads of other spot busters in his black bag.
5. YOU ARE NOT AN ALIEN - BUT JUST BE PATIENT
Hundreds of thousands of teenagers seek help for acne. You are not alone. You are not an alien. And if people really care about you, they don't even notice your acne, however bad you think they are. But you will need to be patient. Most treatments take time to work. At least two months. And some treatments, like antibiotics will work well but may have to be taken for months, or even years.
6. THE MONTHLY CURSE... OR EXAMS
Acne does tend to get worse just before a period. It's because there is a surge in hormone levels at this time. But boys don't get away lightly either. Being hot and sweaty (particularly after sports like football) makes acne worse. And for everyone, stress - particularly at exam times - is a cue for a mega breakout. This is normal - and of course, even more reason for feeling stressed. Go chill. They'll get better - promise.
7. WATCH WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN AND HAIR
Some beauty products are big no-nos. These include pomades and defrizzing agents for hair that tend to cause an outcrop of blackheads along the hairline and some of the heavier cosmetics. And be wary of suntan oils. Not all will make you break out, but some may. Try a friend's first before you buy. By the way, the sun might dry up acne and a tan might hide them, but your skin is still vulnerable in the sun and needs protection.
8. CARRY ON KISSING
You can't catch acne during kissing - go for it!
9. CARRY ON EATING CHOCOLATE
It's a myth that eating chocolate and fried foods causes acne. However, eating a good diet improves your general well-being and this is reflected in your skin.
Common Questions asked about acne problem Does wearing make up cause acne?
It is not necessary that wearing make up causes acne. Acne is caused because of hormonal imbalance mostly during puberty. But you have to take special care while you apply make up and thereafter if you have acne. Make sure you wash any make up tools, including sponges and brushes as often as possible as these become a breeding ground for bugs which can cause your spots to pop up. Stop wearing make up if you have too many spots and you can resume after you have treated them. Don't forget to clean the make up after you come home and and make sure you cleanse your face properly each night.
Do skin toner and moisturizer cure acne?
One thing that you need to know is acne is not caused by dirt, so no amount of cleaning and toning is going to get rid of them. So for treating acne you must consult your doctor and eat lots of healthy food and drink lots of water. That is the natural way to keep you face spot free.
Is it ok to do facial?
It can be a real treat to have the facial done, as they can be very relaxing and make you feel properly pampered. However, you should be aware that they should not be used to help 'treat' spots, as this can be quite dangerous if the beauty therapist is not trained. Sometimes a beauty therapist will also squeeze out any spots and blackheads that if it's not done properly, may cause a bigger problem than before.
What is the best way to cover up spots?
Foundation is okay to use and may give you more confidence if you've got a hot date, but remember to look for oil-free one. Whatever you use to put on your skin, wash your hands or sponge before applying foundation.

and it worked well i still have tons but they arnt red and most of them have gone (: their just pimples now
THESE THINGS REALLY WORK
1 -Drink plenty of water. Staying well hydrated can help your condition improve, because the "waste management" control system in your body requires a lot of water to do its job. Without enough water, the body has difficulty removing some waste products efficiently.
2 - Look for face washes which contain the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide. This is the key ingredient in some of the best face washes. use a 5-10% benzoyl peroxide of mild to moderate acne and 10% for severe.
3 - Try smashing one tablet of aspirin in a small bowl, then adding lemon juice to the mixture. Aspirin is acetesalicylic acid, chemically related to salicylic acid. Apply to the affected areas overnight. It boosts the healing process while reducing redness.
4 - Try putting toothpaste (paste, NOT gel) on your face, cover it with a bandage, and keep it on all night. When you wash it off in the morning your acne will look better. The astringent and surfactant nature of the toothpaste will help diminish the appearance of pimples. But the toothpaste has been known to burn sensitive skin of the face, so be careful. If your face does burn, stop acne treatments and work on healing your burn.
5 - Try AcnEvolution by Susan Thompson of the Dermatology Institute of England. This will get rid of the acne in about 14-30 days. http://tinyurl.com/acneevolution
GOOD LUCK!!
well its better not to use
well its better not to use chemical products, its better if you use a mild herbal face wash, because tthough they have chemicals, they are not so harsh. also its good to use sandalwood paste, leave for half an hour and wash it off with cold water, similarly neem paste also really works.

Nothing Seems to Work?
I loved the article! It gave me a lot more confidence then I did have.
I have been using prescribed medicine for almost a year. It doesn’t completely help but it does make my skin less irritated, but once I put on my make-up (NOTE* its oil free) it causes my face to get red, and makes me seem like I am worse then I actually am. People say that this happens because the friction you make while applying make-up. Is it true?
Carry on kissing.... you can't catch acne...LOL!
I like the candid nature of this article...haha!
Found this page while searching for solutions to acne problem. Apart from the great suggestions given in your article, I've found that it really depends on what result one desire when getting rid of acne.
What I mean is that there are easy quick fix and there are also permanent solutions which require more effort; like dieting, etc. My persistent acne problem has finally been solved after trying out various acne products and reading almost all the acne books out there; I've a short review on my acne website if anyone is interested. Oh yes, I've read the "Acne Free In 3 Days" book too and have written some review on it as well ;)
Hope this will help others who have been seeking help for their acne problems.
Cheers!
Chris

"i have been using cleerasil for about 7 to 8 months and it says visabily clearer skin in 3 days well it dont work for me!!"
I recently wrote, -Nothing Seems to Work- but I see where you’re going. I purchased “Pro-Active” -I am sure many of you have heard of there product- I have been using it a little over 3 months. I have everything, the face mask, daily oil control, all of there products. They say its best selling and results come quick, but over all my face has gotten worse. I am sorry but Pro Active isn’t working its magic on me. It gets so tiring of trying product after product to find that it didn’t do much.
I am 14 now and got acne around 10 years old. After frailer after frailer you start to loose hope. People with clear beautiful skin don’t understand how much acne can affect some one. I don’t have it all over but mostly on my forehead is where I break out. I am tired of people looking at me as if I am an “Alien”.
I am going to try the 2 mouth usage, and many ideas others have offered on this site. But is there a cretin amount of people who have used a product, over the counter, prescribed, pills, anything that has shown the most affect?
Please Help.
Tabitha
changing products wont help.
The stress u have with regard to ur acne problem wil reversly effect ur skin negetively!! b cool, u r not the only one who is suffering from it!
My advise for u is to drink water frequently! if ur blood is not pure then it results in acne for sure, only externally applying on em and changing the products wont help. even i had a same problem as urs..... when i realised my blood was not pure enough i knew the ultimate blood purifier was water.. the pollution outside have resulted for impure blood in us.. well its not a serious problem only when we frequently drink water. after we r clear from inside the products work outside!
TRY THIS! ITS NOT EXPENSIVE OR DIFFICULT!

Omgsh I know how you feel, I
Omgsh I know how you feel, I am a person that usually doesn't break out, but when I do its sooo terrible; I usually get these skin lesion type things, & one time I had 6 all over my face; it looked like I had leporcy or smthng; & everyone was soo rude about it; ppl made me feel bad, made fun of me, & all of tht; soo I feel ur pain, but trust me darling their is hope for you; when tht happen to me, I used a lot of thngs & none seem to work; but one thng tht worked for me was neosporin; it sounds weird, but it helped take away the redness & dryness of the pimple/lesion/bump on my face; & sooner & sooner my skin went back to normal; which I thought cud never happen seeing the way my face looked, sooo don't give up hope, & try the neosporin; ya dnt know it jst might work =D
i know how u feel
i JUST got into my teenage years last month and my acne began about 7 months ago. my face used to be so beautiful and now i feel self concious and everything. do u think its bacteria on my face or just normal because of my age? ive been using proactive for 3 months and im really hoping it works. i havnt seen that much of a difference but im hoping i will. i think it might go away if i use this proactive for 6 more months. thats just a guess. but do u have any suggestions on what i should do?
its hard i kno
i have acne too, ive tried everything! proactiv did not work for me or anyone i have talked too about it, it kept my break outs from being bad but it didnt help it go away. im going to try murad, which is supposed to be better but i can give u some do it yourself tips that mite help.
1. crush asprin and put in lemon juice and apply to areas.
2. shaving cream over nite can dry out the zits
3. toothpaste also drys them out
4. dab q-tips in visine adn apply to the zit for 10min
5. hair conditioner for 30min
6. and u can try washing ur face with dandruff shampoo its supposed to dry them out
i hope these help u more than they helped me!
Hmmm
Well stop using proactive for a week or so and just wash your face with hot water and a good soap,a soap that has no purfumes ,..but if no results change in either i could be normal of your age.. but seeing your got into your teenage years and you will hit puberty...Break outs will happen alot more often..
Hope it helps..
I have been using proactive
I have been using proactive for a year now and have not had any results.I am 13 years old and and am always teased about my acne and i dont know how to deal with it.I get all kinds of zits and its not fun to wake up and be confident to be acne free and then look in the mirror and see all of them things on your face. Please help me if you can but just dont waste your money on Proactive
ITS A WASTE OF MONEY.......
tell your parents to stop
tell your parents to stop buying you proactive my daughters face was worse after using it for 2years best thing to do is go to your doctor he will give you pills for infection and after 2months you will see a change belive me we tryed it all.
i kno what your going thru.
i kno what your going thru. Ive had acne since i was 11 and i still do(im 15). People do tend to make fun( well the used to) but when i started high school i realized that this is here, on my face, and the only thing i can do is be confident. CONFIDENCE IS KEY! i kno everyone says so. but TRUST ME! walk into every room like you are THE BEST thing that EVER happened to those ppl in there. and dont be shy. AND dont even bother with that proactive craap. IT DOESNT WORK! it really doesnt. Try -- Nutragena Oil Free Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash. It really helps and ive only been using it for 2 weeks now. My skin looks so much better. Puts me in a better mood every morning.
*PROACTIVE = CRAP
* Nutragena Oil Free Pink Grapefruit Acne Wash= AMAZING!!
