ACNE (PIMPLES) Acne is a common problem faced by almost all teen-agers and youth. What is acne and why do we get them. Acne is actually caused because of hormone imbalance. Your skin breaks out because of a hormone called testosterone. Both men and women have testosterone in their systems. In fact, did you know that in order to make testosterone, boys bodies have to make female hormones first? If you have acne, you haven't got abnormal levels of testosterone. You've got skin that reacts abnormally to this hormone. You start producing testosterone around the time you start sprouting body hair. Testosterone tells glands in your skin, called sebaceous glands, to produce oily stuff called sebum. To add to the problem the inside of the tubes that hold each hair become gummy and get partially blocked - giving you blackheads. Put together if sebum blocks the tubes --- you have big acne.
So go to your pharmacist or doctor to get your acne treated. Here are a few tips that will help you know how to treat acne at home.
1. If you have red angry looking acne, don't touch it. If you squeeze now, all you'll do is force the contents deeper into the skin that will make matters worst. And all you'll end up with is redder, angrier acne than you had before. Don't do it.
2. If you have a yellow custard top? Go for it. These beauties CAN be squeezed but there's an art to it. Here's how. Wash your hands thoroughly to avoid trouble and infection. Put a tissue over your finger. Why? Because you want the contents of the spot on the tissue, not splattered all over the mirror. Using the side of your thumb and the end of your finger, very gently start to squeeze. Don't whatever you do, use your nails as this will damage your skin. Stop when you're applying a lot of pressure and nothing is happening and you see clear fluid, rather than yellow grotty stuff and the spot begins to bleed. When you've finished dab it with antiseptic. Once the custard bit is out, the spot will heal more quickly than an unsqueezed yellow top would, providing that you now leave it well alone. Now wash your hands again.
3. Whiteheads and blackheads. If acne is left untreated they may cause this problem. Here the rule is if they're black, squeeze but if they're small, white raised lumps leave them alone. All that stuff about clean hands, tissues and stopping if nothing is happening or you see blood, apply here too.
Tips for acne treatment 1. DON'T TRY TO WASH IT AWAY
Acne isn't caused by dirt. In fact people with oily skin have cleaner skin than average because they wash it more often. But it's a fact that washing too much can make acne worse because it makes the skin dry and sore. So, wash no more than twice a day, using mild soap and water. If you have patches of dry skin, don't worry about putting moisturizer on. It won't make your acne worse. If you're still concerned, use an oil free moisturizer.
2. DON'T NUKE 'EM
There are lots of over the counter creams, gels, lotions and potions. Most contain a powerful bleaching agent called benzoyl peroxide. You'll find the strength written on the label. You might be tempted to go straight for the highest sort, working on the 'let's nuke 'em principle. The likely result is that you'll irritate your skin like mad. It may also go all dry and scaly on you. But if you still are willing to bleach then use the mild one.
3. MAKE A DATE - THE TWO MONTH RULE
If you have been using over the counter remedies for two months and there is no real improvement in your spots, this is the moment to go and make an appointment with your doc.
4. YOUR DOCTOR - THE TWO MONTH RULE
The thing you are most likely to be given by the doctor is a prescription for antibiotics. These will either be topical (which means something you put on your skin) or tablets you have to take every day. Whatever treatment your doctor or pharmacist recommends, follow the instructions carefully and keep using for at least two months. There should be a noticeable improvement by this time. If not, go back to discuss other possible treatments Antibiotics are perfectly safe to take. You should take them for at least two months and then go back to your doc. If they seem to be working, he will probably tell you to keep taking them and give you some more. If they aren't doing their stuff, don't despair - he has loads of other spot busters in his black bag.
5. YOU ARE NOT AN ALIEN - BUT JUST BE PATIENT
Hundreds of thousands of teenagers seek help for acne. You are not alone. You are not an alien. And if people really care about you, they don't even notice your acne, however bad you think they are. But you will need to be patient. Most treatments take time to work. At least two months. And some treatments, like antibiotics will work well but may have to be taken for months, or even years.
6. THE MONTHLY CURSE... OR EXAMS
Acne does tend to get worse just before a period. It's because there is a surge in hormone levels at this time. But boys don't get away lightly either. Being hot and sweaty (particularly after sports like football) makes acne worse. And for everyone, stress - particularly at exam times - is a cue for a mega breakout. This is normal - and of course, even more reason for feeling stressed. Go chill. They'll get better - promise.
7. WATCH WHAT YOU PUT ON YOUR SKIN AND HAIR
Some beauty products are big no-nos. These include pomades and defrizzing agents for hair that tend to cause an outcrop of blackheads along the hairline and some of the heavier cosmetics. And be wary of suntan oils. Not all will make you break out, but some may. Try a friend's first before you buy. By the way, the sun might dry up acne and a tan might hide them, but your skin is still vulnerable in the sun and needs protection.
8. CARRY ON KISSING
You can't catch acne during kissing - go for it!
9. CARRY ON EATING CHOCOLATE
It's a myth that eating chocolate and fried foods causes acne. However, eating a good diet improves your general well-being and this is reflected in your skin.
Common Questions asked about acne problem Does wearing make up cause acne?
It is not necessary that wearing make up causes acne. Acne is caused because of hormonal imbalance mostly during puberty. But you have to take special care while you apply make up and thereafter if you have acne. Make sure you wash any make up tools, including sponges and brushes as often as possible as these become a breeding ground for bugs which can cause your spots to pop up. Stop wearing make up if you have too many spots and you can resume after you have treated them. Don't forget to clean the make up after you come home and and make sure you cleanse your face properly each night.
Do skin toner and moisturizer cure acne?
One thing that you need to know is acne is not caused by dirt, so no amount of cleaning and toning is going to get rid of them. So for treating acne you must consult your doctor and eat lots of healthy food and drink lots of water. That is the natural way to keep you face spot free.
Is it ok to do facial?
It can be a real treat to have the facial done, as they can be very relaxing and make you feel properly pampered. However, you should be aware that they should not be used to help 'treat' spots, as this can be quite dangerous if the beauty therapist is not trained. Sometimes a beauty therapist will also squeeze out any spots and blackheads that if it's not done properly, may cause a bigger problem than before.
What is the best way to cover up spots?
Foundation is okay to use and may give you more confidence if you've got a hot date, but remember to look for oil-free one. Whatever you use to put on your skin, wash your hands or sponge before applying foundation.

The Acne Treatment That Worked For Me
6 months ago I had finally found an acne treatment that works for me. mo more acne . I could not believe this day will come - acnezine
Help!
I absolutely HATE acne! I get most of it on my fore-head and I've finally got rid of all my black heads. I take real good care of my skin - I don't use foundation or any make-up, I wash my face about 2-3 times a day with this exfoiliating face wash which supposedly prevents spots. I use this clean and clear spot cream which reduces them in four hours, sometimes it works but most of the time it just looks the same. Within one hour or washing my face, it just gets oily again. My Mom actually had loads and loads of spots when she was younger, and she told me that oily skin actually increases the size of spots. I've also read that healthy hair is good for spots too, and so I wash my hair very often. Can anyone give me some help?
Thanx :)

Best way to get rid of acne
Thanks for the wonderful article. I have seen some comments by the readers. They say that applying paste reduces pimples. But in reality not so. It is better to avoid such practices and follow standard scientific processses.
I also suffered from acne like anything for the past 16 years. I have cured my acne completely now. I had found that mostly my cosmetics were the reason for my acne. I have eliminated those cosmetics from my routine usage. My acne has gone.
Then I thought why I shouldn't spread this message to all those who suffer from acne.
Thats how the How to get rid of acne? Acne-Elimination.com has born.
Really you can get rid of your acne.
Acne Treatments
I have had acne for about three years (it started at the beginning of seventh grade and my ninth grade year is now almost over). At first it wasn't that bad, a couple zits here and there, but then it started getting worse. I started using foundation and base products, and many people have said that it doesn't do anything to make your acne worse, but I don't know. There are many methods that I have tried over the few years I've had pimples, some have worked and some haven't. When I first went to the doctor about it he prescribed Cephalexin (that might be spelled wrong). It didn't work for me, so the doctor prescribed a stronger antibiotic to me called Doxycycline. It works, relatively well, I think. Right now, I have moderate acne, so I can't be sure.
Some other methods I've tried is Tea Tree Oil. What you do is pull your hair back, get your face wet, and then dry your hands. You want to put a few drops of Tea Tree Oil in the palm of your hand, and how you do this is you take off the lid, put your palm on top of the open bottle, and then turn it upside down and then right-side-up again. You really only need like a drop. Then you want to mix a scrub in. I'm sure any scrub will work, but I use an apricot scrub. You just squeeze a sufficient amount into your palm with the Tea Tree Oil and then mix it up with a tooth pick or something of the sort. then apply it all over your face (even the unaffected areas), and then leave it on for awhile. The scrub will probably get kind of sticky, and that's normal. It kind of burns, but once you use this treatment for awhile you'll get used to it. Just leave it on for like three minutes, and then wash it off with hot water. You should only do this once a day, because it can dry out your skin. You should use another type of facewash afterwards so that the oil doesn't stick on your skin. It's supposed to soothe your skin or something. My mom told me this method.
Another method I've used is Tiger Balm. In fact, I just used it this afternoon, and my skin has smoothed out. It doesn't really help with the redness, but the bumps have gone down, which is better than nothing. What you do is simple. Just rub it over the affected areas, but you have to leave it on for a LONG time. I left it on for like two hours. It kind of burns, and makes your eyes hurt, but it clears your nasal passages, and it lessens the swelling that often occurs when you have acne. It's REALLY sticky, so you probably have to use a scrub to fully wash the residue off. A girl named Sara refered this method to me. I would suggest only using it when your acne is the worst it can be in a month (if you're a woman), or if it has just gotten a lot more worse than usual.
Another is using these face wash pads that have 2% salicylic acid in them. It's some sort of acne medication. This also kind of burns, and it should not be a main face wash. I use it every time I was my face, but AFTER I've used my other face wash. I use the Tea Tree Oil method every night, and then I use the pad. You shouldn't use the pad if you have makeup on, because then it won't penetrate your pores well enough. I use probably two or three a day. Only use them once, then throw them away. After I use the pad, I rinse my face with COLD water, because it closes your pores, and if anything is left in your pores, it will most likely be this acne medication.
I've heard from MANY people that birth control is like a savior from God for acne. Of course this only works for women; sorry guys! But it somehow levels your hormone levels, and it also makes your periods more regular, too! (This is the pill kind.)
This is for girls who, for some reason, can't use birth control. My older sister can't take pill birth control because she had a blood clot, and birth control heightens your risk if you've already had one. She takes this stuff called Cod Liver Oil. I'm going to assume it's a pill, but I'm not sure. I noticed when she started taking this shot birth control because her skin started getting worse. The shot birth control is a good contraception, and it regulates your periods, but it makes you break out. She said that she was taking Vitamin E pills and then the Cod Liver Oil and her skin looks great!
I've heard that Acutane (I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling or not) helps your skin from my friends, but I'm not so sure. There have been studies saying that it causes birth defects, and I believe it. My mom and sister say the same thing. The product even says it! The product says that it takes up to a month to fully leave your system after you stop taking it, but other studies have said it stays in your female parts for life. Personally, I'd rather have acne than permanently damage my kids' lives!
This is really easy, but when you wash your face, DON'T rub your face dry with the towel. Instead, dab it. Rubbing it can drag unwashed makeup from your eyes onto your skin and clog your pores, or merely just irritate your skin. It's not much, but it does help some.
This is really easy too. Shower EVERY NIGHT. It keeps your hair clean, and so then if your hair does for some reason hang in your face, it won't get your skin all oily. Also, it keeps you from getting body acne. I used to get acne on my shoulders, kind of the back/sides of my neck, and then on my check and in between my breasts. I also use the Tea Tree Oil method in between my breasts and it really helps. I only have acne on my face and it's mild to moderate. Just keep clean!
Now, the talk about exercise, water, and eating healthy is true. I've always been a sucker for junk, and I'm sure that it affects your acne. I'm really trying to not eat junk, and it is helping a little (it would probably help more if I wasn't sneaking things under the table). Also, I just recently had to quit wrestling (Yes, I am a girl, and no, I did not do that fake stuff on TV), but anyway... I exercised a lot and sweat (sweat is good if you wash it off quickly; it helps get bad bacteria and waste and stuff out of your pores), and then I'd shower. Also, I drank more water because it was the only beverage that was available. I'm going to have to go back. I'm thinking that's the trick!
I've heard a lot of people talk about how their acne makes them feel ugly. I know how you feel. I feel the same way, but I've gotten over that, and you should, too! I was giving my boyfriend some reasons about why I was so self-conscious, and I told him about my skin. He said he couldn't even hardly notice! It's a proven fact that you see your own imperfections 90 times worse than anybody else sees them. Just relax! Don't take care of acne to make yourself look better; take care of it to be healthier.
I swear that this is proven somewhere, but stress is the number one cause of acne. Over the summer when I don't have homework or school to weigh me down I have ZERO acne. Just figure something out to take some of the stress off your shoulders every once in awhile.
Also, lack of sleep makes you break out. It can also make you sick (I've gotten the flu MANY times in the past few months because I'm not sleeping enough).
I've seen lots of things saying that you shouldn't pop zits. That is sometimes true. You should only pop them if the head is white. Otherwise, it does force the puss back into your flesh. I know! It's disgusting... I've heard the result of that called cysts, and I believe it. They hurt REALLY bad. What I've found to work, is I have this tool to pop them. It's probably just called an acne tool of some sort. It's a metal piece with a little metal loop on the end. It makes it so that the skin around the pimple won't get irritated when you pop it. It was a great investment.
Also, talking about diet, carbs make you break out more and make the break outs harder to manage. It makes the lining of your pore thicker and then if you try to pop it (because it's ready), it's harder and gets forced back into your flesh anyway. Just keep the carbs to a miminum.
I've seen this mentioned before, but my friend uses Neosporin, and her skin is REALLY clear. She just uses like soap and hot water, and then puts that on after... it keeps your skin from drying out, and then it helps popped zits heal.
That was probably REALLY long, but I hope you find it useful!

Acne - found something that works
Hi,
I used to have really bad acne . It was pretty embarassing to go to college with my acne patched face and I was desperate to get rid of it somehow. I took plenty of efforts to keep my face clean all the time and also ate nutritious food and drank lots of water. Unfortunately none of it helped. I then recently read an article about a lady who got rid of her acne using a particular product. I tried it and it worked really well. Within 4 weeks my acne was gone completely. Really good stuff. You can read more about the lady's article at the link below.

what worked for me.
i used to get a few BAD break-outs
during my cycle.
proactive DOES NOT work,
it may for a while
but it will end up ruining your skin.
and believe me i tried almost everthing,
but origans never a dull moment was always the thing that cleared me up.
you can get it in dillards which is where the origans store is located.
and im pretty sure its only 14$
but its worth it for clear skin.
i hope this helps.
p.s. all their products are all natural and have no chemicals which can be really harmful to our skin.
pimples suck.
I hope some of this stuff works. I've been striving to be acne free for years. I've done everything from bombing by face sore with products to the easily taking it one step at a time. Some of these suggestions sound wonderful. <3
HELP, please! :/
Okay, so I'm 15 years old.
Most of my friends luckly don't have any acne. And, of course I do!
I actually don't have bad acne at all. I just have a bad amount of pimples on my face and it's so not attractive. I've been trying to get rid of them forever. I've tried everything from drinking a lot of water and putting lemon juice on my face to using Proactiv. NONE of it has worked though. I know I can't get rid of my acne because, I've been told that a billion times but, I'd really like to clear it up. I really want to help these pimples go away so, I could feel more confident about myself. I try not to get stressed because, I know that makes it worse but, I just can't help it. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. I'm begging for any help that I can get. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY REMEDIES OR PRODUCTS THAT REALLY WORK? That would mean the world to me! I could really use your help! And, I appreciate anyone who helps. I'd really like to cure my acne before I go back to school in September. Thank you sooo much! :)

Benzol Peroxide is GREAT
i use 5% benzol peroxide at night and wash my face with neutrogena pore refining cleanser twice a day, no more than that otherwise my skin goes nuts. in the day time i give my skin a rest with a nice oil-free moisturiser. if you do not use a moisturiser on oily skin after you have washed it, the skin will want to produce more oil to stop it from flaking or cracking in worse cases.
you can put moisturiser over BP at night to stop it from flaking, but it will take longer for your skin to get nice. i just put lots on in the day and try and wear as little cosmetics as possible.
