what happens If INR 1 Rs = USD $ 100

Cute Girl Mar 31, 2008

Year : 2050

Place : IBM , USA
(Two Americans Talking)

Currency Conversion Rate : INR 1 Rs = USD $ 100

Alex: Hi John, you didn't come yesterday to office?

John: Yeah, I was in Indian Embassy for stamping.

Alex: Oh really, what happened, I heard that nowadays it has become very strict.

John: Yeah, but I managed to get it.

Alex: How long it took to get it stamped?

John: Oh, it was nasty man, long queue. Bill Gates was standing in front of me and they played with him like anything. That's why it got delayed. I went there at 2 AM itself and waited and returned by 4 PM .

Alex: Really? In India , it is a matter of an hour to get stamped for USA

John: Yeah, but that is because who in India will be interested in coming to USA man, their economy has been booming.

Alex: So, when are you leaving?

John: Anytime, after receiving my tickets from the client in India and you know, I will be getting a chance to fly Air-India. Sort of dream come true.

Alex: How long are you going to stay in India .

John: What do you mean by how long? I will be settled in India , my company has promised me that they will process my Hara Patta ..(green card)

Alex: Really, lucky person man, it is very difficult to get a Hara Patta in India .

John: Yeah, that's why, I am planning to marry an Indian girl there.

Alex: But you can find lots of US girls in Hyderabad , Bangalore and Mumbai.

John: But, I prefer Indian girls because they are beautiful and cultured.

Alex: Where did you get the offer, Hyderabad?

John: Yeah, salary is good there, but cost of living is quite high, it is Rs. 2000/- for a single room accommodation.

Alex: I see, that's too much for US people, Rs.1/- =$100/-. Oh God! What about in Bangalore, Mumbai?

John: No idea, but it is less than what we have in Hyderabad. It is like the world headquarters of software

Alex: I heard, almost all the Indians are having one personal Robot for help.

John: You can get a BMW car for Rs. 5000/-, and a personal Robot for less than Rs.7500/-. But my dream is to purchase Ambassador, which costs Rs.2 ,00,000/- but has got a lovely design.

Alex: By the way, who is your client?

John: Subbarao and Apparao Associates, a pure Indian company, specialising in Embedded Software.

Alex: Oh, really, lucky to work in a pure Indian company. They are really intelligent and unlike American Bodyshoppers who have opened their Fly-by-night outfits in India . Indian companies pay you in full even when you are on bench.

My friend Paul Allen, it seems, used his bench time to visit Bihar, the most liveable place in India , probably world. There you have full freedom and no restrictions. You can do whatever you want! I
wonder how that state has perfected that system.

John: Yeah man!, you are right. I hope our Americaalso follows their footsteps.

Alex: How are you going to cope with their language?

John: Why not? From my school days I have been learning Hindi as my first language here at New York . At the Consulate they tested my proficiency in Hindi and were quite impressed by my cent per cent score in TOHIL i.e. Test of Hindi as International Language.

Alex: So, you are going to have fun there.

John: Yeah, I will be travelling in the world's fastest train, world's largest theme park, and the famous Bollywood where you can see actors like, Hrithik, Shah Rukh Khan and all. Esselworld is also near Bollywood.

Alex: You know, the PM is scheduled to visit US next year, he may then relax the number of visas.

John: That's true. Last month, Narayana Murthy visited White House and donated Rs. 2000/- for infrastructure development at aSiliconValleyand has promised more if we follow the model of High-
Tech City of Bangalore . Bill Gates also got a chance of meeting him. Very lucky person.

Alex: But, Indian government is planning to split Narayanamurthy's Infosys.

John: He is a hard worker man, he can build any number of Infosys like this. Every minute he is getting Rs. 1000/-. It seems, if you keep all his money converted as Rs. 100/- notes you can reach Pluto.

Alex: OK, Good Luck John.

John: Same to you Alex. And don't go to Consulate in a "Kurta Pyjama" because they will think you are too Indianised and may doubt you will never come back and hence your Non-Immigrant Visa may get rejected. But don't forget to say " Namaste, aap kaise hai " to the Visa officer at Window 5. It seems he likes that and will not give you a visa if you don't greet him that way.

Good story, i thing we need to find some oil wells or some rare resource eg: agriculture to be booming in our country.
still, i like $1=Re1 would be the best neutral thing.

nice satire on status of india. do you think money alone will help us become like the US?

  4. Guest Sep 25, 2008

With our countless beggars, corrupt politicians, greedy rich, laid back burgeois and f**ked up political and economic systems, its a nice dream to have. Mera bharat mahan! Hum honge kaamyaab ek din... (that ek din never seems to come, been hearing that shit since the 80s)

Are you forgetting that it was American spending that paid for the recent economic boom in india? Once US and EU firms stop offshoring, all those revenues will dwindle and India will have to rely on its domestic spending which will fall hugely because of those lost BPO and software jobs. This will take it back to the mid 80s. BTW, India was almost bankrupt by the end of the 80s which forced them into liberalizing the economy. So far, we have still not effectively weaned off their dependence on foreign investment.

As the US & EU markets fall, they will pull out their investments from India. This in turn will cause the Indian markets to crash. BTW this is happening as I type and as you read. So check the stock market and see where India is going. In the end US's suffering is India's suffering as well.

Also remember that for India to progress it needs to control energy reserves. So if India wants to get better than the US and/or, it will have to challenge and fight wars with these countries to control the worlds energy reserves. Otherwise its at the mercy of the western controlled oil markets as usual.

Also remember that India still lacks infrastructure: reliable power, good roads, functioning ports, clean water. To be built all of these also critically depend on cheap energy. There is no supply chain to cater to the rural population even to this day even for FMCG. Heck even today except for Bombay every other city still has brown/black outs at some point or the other. Roads are always dug up. Trash is never picked up. Pollution is out of control which means the young will have massive health problems which will drain the economy.

But anyways you can dream up crap if you want or choose to fight the corrupt politics and actually make India self-reliant. Its your choice. In the end Indians (especially the software & BPO monkeys) will be lining up more to go to clean sewers in Dubai maybe instead of the US. Wait... they are already... Hahahahaha!!

I was looking some analysis on what whould happen if this actually happens 1 INR=100 USD or other way around

I was looking more in the grouds of moving money between India and USA, their are huge investments at stake , investors will be eger to cash out their investements. or may be invest more into the growing economy.

and remember this India is dependendent culture slowly moving to Independendent mode(not sure) . All these BPO and most of the software we make is for outside market.

Another thing to consider is Indian population size. Comunities not getting along with each other , States have been split in smaller states as people does not to get along with each other, how would they share their prospority with other nation citizens?

Fact is India is already super power in economy, most of domestic issues and border issues keep comming back unless India starts showing its might getting these under control . win at home before going further.

We Indians are too proud lot...we talk a lot but do not think...even if this is satire this article is stupid....

first we do not have infrastructure, politicians are corrupt, cost of living is raising, rural india is forgotten, America is a great country because still it has its roots in agriculture...what is happening in India, the lands that were used to grow crops are sold for realestate, even the cities does not running water, i am hearing cotton mills and power mills in Tamilnadu are facing power crisis...so when we have so many problem, we engage in empty talk.

Is it that we do not think or we are so engrossed in the talk we have forgotten to think.

I am a proud and Patriotic India, who had to leave my land in search of living , my heart bleeds when i see so many children are used as child labour. So many have replied to the article saying you are all waiting for the day, how many of your relatives have employed child labour in their home did you stand up? Do you all really have an idea or clue on the right status of commom man in India.

My great Indias, Ariise and Awake, stop talking and starting thinking.....be proud of the country and see the real happenings rather than talking big without working.

Pretty very well thought and succinctly written article. And absolutely the 100% naked truth. We Indians should feel sad instead of floundering the so-called neo-wealth. Just look internally at our mentalities. No Indian likes or trusts another truly. Why? Because as a society we are all messed up. We believe evil is correct. We support corruption, malpractice, rowdy-ism and other such social ills. Our strength is just on paper. Period. Unless as a society, if we do not improve, pay our taxes, pay our bills and dues, eliminate massive and rampant public corruption, eliminate monolithic bureaucracies reminiscent of the British Raj (which are so redundant now), reduce Government spending and power, take complete control of Law & Order and Justice systems to name a few, we will not improve. What wealth we are talking is but with a few people. Everything else is so cramped. Yet no one wants to improve the quality of life. No one seems to care that we all have just 1 life to live.

    and still falling

  15. Guest Nov 18, 2008

Well said Anonymous(on Oct 8)! I was about to say something similar when i found your comment! Very true!

  16. Guest Nov 21, 2008

we should dream,so that we work to make them come true....
i am glad to see that there are other INDIAN's too who think the same way i think...
i am happy i am not alone in this battle, where our own peoples will not fail to demoralize us.
this article was good one, except one error, where ever we had shown usa down on knees it may reflect that INDIA is not doing well right now...THOUGH INDIA HAS NEVER BEEN LIKE THAT...problems har jagah hain, humare desh ki problems ko hum solve nahi karenge to kya koi aur karega, aur problems ka bahana bana kar jo humko demoralize karte hain wo sabse badi problem hain humare desh ke liye..JAISA BHI HAI,DESH MERA HAI,AND "I AM PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN"
sir u have thought well,i am in this dream and i will do anything to make it come true, but not in 2050...it will not take more then 2020,so gear up now,we have a huge task...good luck
    JAI HIND

    Dream on!!

I'll wait to write more when 100 INR = 1 USD

    For now, thoughts to ponder:
What is India's ( I prefer Bharat as India is probably a foriegn name) true competitive strenght? Except a few smart people, and the english language edge that foreigners gave it? Which simply translates to the fact that this country will do well in a technology driven global economy. But, so will many others who it has to compete with.

Education is what got it here and education will take it further...

Note: Don't listen & think about -ve ailments, they are loosers always!

    "Choota sochana paapa hai"!
    You have really thought BIG.
You have expressed your opinion just as any other Indian would dream of! Most people here just consolidate themselves and feel happy when American Economy grows, but nobody thinks about our strengths! Some of them don't like people like you to think because they are "practical" and may even give proofs that its not practically possible! Friends wake up! Bring +veness in our thoughts!

But we showed them Indians are not far behind (eg. Chandrayan Moon Mission, Military Power, & more)

I know this is no way targeted to Amaricans, its just OUR Dream that such day might come(pray for that)!

    Keep posting more.
