It becomes frustrating only if it takes place days after days or months after months. Insomnia is actually sleepless. The person with insomnia experiences interrupted sleep or inadequate sleep or total sleeplessness. It is quite frustrating when you see others enjoying a sound, peaceful sleep while you are wide awake through the night tossing and turning in your bed. Insomnia, based on duration is of the following three types:</p>

<p>Transient insomnia (continues for less than a week)</p>

<p>Short-term insomnia ( continues for 1-3 weeks)</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Chronic insomnia (lasts for more than 3 weeks)</p>
</li>

<p>Insomniacs cannot fall asleep easily. The more they try to get sleep, the more difficult the situation becomes. They up wake several times in the midst of sleep and wake up un-refreshed in the morning. Inadequate sleep or absence of sleep causes them to be laden with loads of fatigue and lethargy during day time. Insomnia may lead to irritability, uncoordinated movements, poor concentration and impaired memory.</p>
<p>The various insomnia triggers are stress, anxiety, excessive alcohol intake, excessive caffeine intake, drug abuse, changes in work shift, jet lag, habit of sleeping during day, noisy or brightly lit bedroom, hormonal fluctuations, physical conditions like pain, fever, cough, nasal congestion, breathing problems, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, diseases like Acid reflux disease, Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease etc.</p>
<p>Ways to cure insomnia:</p>

<p>Improve your sleeping aids, i.e. wear loose fitting garments, get a soft, cozy pillow and mattress and make alterations in your comfort posture.</p>
