<p>It affects twice as many boys as girls in childhood; more girls than boys in teenage and in adulthood, the ratio becomes 1:1 males to females. People with asthma have extra sensitive or hyper responsive airways. The airways react by narrowing or obstructing when they become irritated. This makes it difficult for the air to move in and out.</p>
<p><strong>Causes of Asthma</strong></p>
<p>The various factors responsible for the cause of asthma are:</p>
<ol>
<li>
<p>Lack of exercise: Many are in the habit of easy life that means without any exercises and such people when sometimes get exposed to some irritants develop allergies leading to the blockage of airways.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Genetic factors: Many of the families are suffering from this chronic disease. The people suffering from asthma also have other allergic conditions such as rhinitis i.e. inflammation of nose lining.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Dietary changes: A high intake of processed food, salt intake, a lower intake antioxidant and omega-3 fatty acids highly contribute in the development of asthma.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Occupational exposure: The people working in the industries of baking, woodworking, spray painting of cars, farming and chemical production are prone to asthma due to various irritants such as dust, gases present there.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Environmental factors: Infections such as colds and flu, irritants such as dust, cigarette smoke, fumes, house dust mites, pollen, medicines or certain other allergic foods.</p>
</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Asthma Symptoms</strong></p>
<p>Patients suffering from asthma appear to be gasping for breath. Actually, they have more difficulty in breathing out than breathing in, and this is caused by spasms or sudden involuntary muscular contractions of the smaller air passages in the lungs.</p>
<p>Home Remedies to treating Asthma</p>
<ol>
<li>
<p>Make a glass of juice by adding 2/3 glass of carrot juice and 1/3 glass of spinach juice. Take it thrice a day for asthma relief.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Make a mixture of 1/4 cup of onion juice, 1 teaspoon honey and 1/8 teaspoon black pepper. It gives immediate relief from congestion and alleviate breathlessness.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Boil 8-10 cloves of garlic in ½ cup of milk and drink it at night. It is beneficial for early stages of asthma.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Add 1 tsp of honey in very hot water and sip slowly before sleeping to remove phlegm from the throat. It is also good home remedy for asthma.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Consumption of three to four dry figs every morning would prove useful in curing a person of asthmatic attack.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>A glass of warm milk, with a tsp of turmeric powder added to it, will be beneficial in keeping the asthmatic attacks at bay.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Take a tablespoonful of safflower seeds and add a tablespoonful of honey to them. Eat this once a day.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Make a paste of Indian gooseberry, banyan root and honey. Mix 250 gm Indian gooseberry, 50 gm banyan root and 125 ml honey and make a paste. Consume this paste 1 tsp at a time.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Another remedy would be to take a glass of limejuice, to which a teaspoonful of ginger juice has been added.</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Boil a glass of milk, with ten garlic cloves in it. After the milk comes to a boil, remove it from heat, strain and let it cool down. Drinking this decoction would effectively reduce asthmatic attacks.</p>
