Atherosclerosis is derived from two Greek words namely athero (means gruel or paste) and sclerosis (means hardness). It is a name of the process in which there are deposits of fatty substance, cholesterols, cellular waste product, calcium and many other material building up in the inner line of an artery.
The sticky substance that builds up in the blood vessels is called as a plaque. It generally affects large and midsized arteries. Some hardening of arteries is quite considered as a normal physiological process as in people who are aged.

Physical inactivity or sedentary lifestyle

Obesity or overweight
Gender (men are more affected)
Age (old aged people are more affected)
Diabetes mellitus
Dietary changes (overeating of high fat and calorie diet)

Treatment of Atherosclerosis
Treatment for atherosclerosis can be as simple as a lifestyle change such as exercising regularly, losing weight if needed, quitting smoking if you do, eating a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables and not drinking alcohol excessively. Treatments for this disease are ways to prevent getting atherosclerosis or to just improve your arteries all together. Since a risk factor is high cholesterol, make sure you talk to your doctor about the different types of medications there are to improve your cholesterol. There are medications that boost your good cholesterol and will slow down and reverse the buildup of fatty deposits in your arteries. There are also medications to help lower your blood pressure, and anticoagulants can help prevent clots from forming, even aspirin does this.
Home Remedies for Atherosclerosis
Mix a teaspoon of herbs of army-worm blossom, a tablespoon of common yarrow and a tablespoon of hedge hyssop. Infuse the mix of herbs with 1.5 glasses of boiling water and leave the tincture to brew for some time. Drink small mouthfuls of the tincture. You should drink a glass of the decoction within a day.
Eat 2-3 fresh cloves of garlic each day.
Infuse a tablespoon of granulated heather with half a liter of boiling water. Continue to boil the tincture for 10 minutes and leave it to brew for 3 hours in a warm place. Afterwards, decant the decoction and drink it as a tea or water. In addition, the decoction is a great remedy to treat abnormal cerebral blood flow, nervous system disorders, insomnia and cardiovascular diseases.
If atherosclerosis is accompanied with head noise, you should use the following recipe. Mix equal quantities of herbs of red clover blossom and stalk. Infuse the mix with a glass of boiling water and leave it to brew for some time. Use the decoction as a tea and drink within a day.
Mix half a teaspoon of herbs of whitethorn flowers, half a teaspoon of field horsetail and 2 tablespoons of common yarrow. Infuse the mix of herbs with 1.5 glasses of boiling water and leave the tincture to brew for some time. Drink a glass of the decoction within a day for 2 months with interruptions.
