• Learning Difficulties: - Individuals with mild mental retardation will have trouble learning academic skills and may require accommodations and modifications to help them to learn basic skills. • Educational Plateau: - Children with mild mental retardation will typically reach an educational plateau at about the sixth-grade level, which means that education attainment beyond this level is unlikely. • Poor Social Skills: - Children with mild mental retardation may have poor social skills because they may have more difficulty learning and generalizing the unspoken social rules that govern society. • Other Symptoms: - Individuals with mild mental retardation may have motor skills impairment that affects their ability to play sports. Also, they may lack curiosity and may be quiet-mannered. • Independent Living: - Most individuals with mild mental retardation will be able to learn enough academic skills, job skills and life skills to live independently in adulthood.
