Bronchitis describes inflammation of the bronchial tubes (inflammation = itis). The inflammation causes swelling of the lining of these breathing tubes, narrowing the tubes and promoting secretion of inflammatory fluid.
Causes for Bronchitis
Excessive smoking causes a breathing problem, chest pain and lead to bronchitis. High doze of medicines, improper diet, unrest, stress also cause bronchitis problem. Genetics and heredity reasons are sometimes responsible for bronchitis disease in the patient. Improper breathing technique, staying and working in less airy environment, or in absence of fresh oxygen also causes bronchitis. Changes in the climatic condition sometimes lead to breathing difficulties.

If you get acute bronchitis as a result from a viral infection antibiotics will not be effective. In most cases you are advised to get plenty of rest, drink plenty of fluids and to stay in a warm and moist environment. This would be your best cure.
For chronic bronchitis suffer, your goal is to reduce you exposure to whatever it is irritating your bronchial tubes. If you are a smoker, the best advice is to stop smoking. Antibiotic maybe prescribed in some cases. But there are not guarantee that bronchitis won't occur again. In some cases bronchitis can be life threatening.

Most common home remedy for bronchitis is administration of one teaspoonful of turmeric powder (haridra) can be given with a glass full of milk, twice or thrice daily. It acts best when taken early in the morning, empty stomach.
Take equal amounts of dried ginger, black pepper, and long pepper (pippali). Now powder them all and their mixture can be given thrice daily.
Even a teaspoonful of honey and ginger juice dissolved in 150 ml of hot water will cause expectoration of trapped phlegm.
Juice of vasa (Adhatoda vasica) may be taken thrice daily, in two teaspoonful doses. Two teaspoonfuls of honey taken daily are also helpful for the treatment of bronchitis.
In acute bronchitis, the patient should fast on orange juice and water till the acute symptoms subside. Thereafter, he should adopt an all-fruit diet for two or three days.
In the case of chronic bronchitis, the patient can begin with an all-fruit diet for five to seven days, taking three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits. After the all-fruit diet, he should follow a well-balanced diet with emphasis on seeds, nuts, grains, raw vegetables, and fresh fruits. For drinks, unsweetened lemon water, or cold/hot plain water may be taken.
