Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes pain and weakness in the muscles of the hand. There is a structure as a small tunnel in the wrist joint, which houses a nerve called the median nerve. This nerve is especially important for the functions and sensations of the muscles of the palm. Any increase in the carpal tunnel contents or decreasing the size of the tunnel itself can compress the nerve as it passes through the tunnel of the hand in the palm.
Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The exact time of the CTS is unknown, although certain medical conditions and professionals can increase risks.

  1. Repetitive strain (such as the endless hours in a key-board!)

  2. Pregnancy,

  3. Oral contraceptive pills,

  4. In active thyroid functions,

  5. Diabetes

  6. Acromegaly

  7. Osteoarthritis

  8. Rheumatoid arthritis,

  9. Heart failure,

  10. Trauma and fracture of bone in the wrist (lunate)

  11. Premenstrual tension.
    Other factors that increase the likelihood of CTS are:

  12. CTS affecting any family member.

  13. Occupations (workers in the assembly line, meat packers, food processors, and work as non-general's office)

  14. Stress,

  15. Obesity and

  16. Age (> 40)

Carpal Tunnel Symptoms
Carpal tunnel symptoms usually increase gradually and will initially only be present at night. Carpal tunnel syndrome can be in one or both wrists.

  1. A dull ache in the wrist and forearm.
  2. Pain that radiates to the thumb and four fingers (except the little finger).
  3. Tingling or burning sensations in the hand or four fingers.
  4. Pain that worsens at night.
  5. The pain may radiate to the forearm, elbow or shoulder.
  6. Weakness in the fingers and hands. Carpal Tunnel Symptoms

Homeopathic treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

  1. Homeopathy can be considered a good alternative to steroids in most cases. We recommend you start with homeopathy before the option of cortisone.
  2. It can offer greater control over the pain and stiffness, providing a substitute for analgesics. Homeopathic medicines are safe and have no side effects than NSAIDs.
  3. No side effects of homeopathic treatment.
  4. Homeopathic treatment can often prevent the use of surgery.

Yoga and Other Exercise Programs
Yoga. Very limited evidence suggests that yoga practice can provide some benefit for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Yoga postures are designed to stretch, strengthen and balance upper body joints.
A general exercise program. Some experts have reported that people who are physically fit, including athletes, runners and swimmers, have a lower risk for cumulative trauma disorders. Although there is evidence that exercise can directly improve the CTS, a regular exercise regimen using a combination of aerobic and resistance training techniques strengthens the muscles of the shoulders, arms and back, helps reduce weight and improve general health and wellbeing.
