Constipation is distinct as having a bowel group fewer than three times per week. With constipation stools are more often than not hard, dry, small in size, and tricky to eliminate.

Some people who are constipated find it painful to have a bowel movement and often experience straining, bloating, and the feeling of a full bowel.

Some people think they are constipated if they do not have a bowel group every day. However, normal stool removal may be three times a day or three times a week, depending on the person.

Constipation means different things to dissimilar people. For many people, it simply means infrequent stools. For others, however, constipation means hard stools, complicatedness passing stools (straining), or a sense of imperfect emptying after a bowel movement.

Constipation is when you have trouble have bowel movements. Your stools may be very hard, making them so difficult to pass that you have to strain. Or you may feel like you still need to have a bowel association even after you've had one. Causes of Constipation

  1. Are you really constipated? (See questions in Constipation in adults)

  2. Are you taking enough fluids and fibre in your diet? In northern climates, dehydration is not usually a problem, but in hot climates, it can cause dry stools that are difficult to pass.

  3. Do you take enough exercise?

  4. Are you taking any medicines that can cause constipation (see below)?

  5. Are you allowing enough lavatory time to defecate?

  6. Has there been any change in your lifestyle? Has your job or personal relationships become more demanding?

Treatment of Constipation

The mainstay of treatment of constipation is a high-fiber diet. Bulking agents frequently are the next line of treatment. Enemas can be used to assist in entire stool evacuation. Avoid irritant or peristaltic stimulants (eg, senna).

Chronic use has been reported to make damage to the myenteric plexus, which may eventually impair bowel motility.

A number of newer agents have been urbanized and can be added to the armamentarium for treatment of this potentially debilitating disease such as prucalopride, a 5HT4 receptor agonist, and lubiprostone, a chloride channel activator.
