The reason you are probably reading this article is that you are either about to begin a diet or you are on a diet and are beginning to question its basic premise. Either way, you want to know if dieting works or not. Yes, it does and anyone can do it. So, why does it work for some people and not for others? A recent survey concluded that while around 85% of people managed to shake of some weight after a dieting program, only a handful of around 15% were able to keep it that way for a considerable period of time.

The reason some diets fail is because they are unrealistic. In order for you to succeed in your diet plan, you have to be pragmatic about the goals that you set for yourself. It is unreasonable to expect to lose more than 10 pounds in a week just because you cut back on fatty foods. So for a dieting plan to work, you must first cut down your expectations to a more achievable level.

Once you have done that, you must start planning out a diet that has a little bit of everything. It is foolish to neglect food stuff that you actually like in the hopes of losing weight. You might as well end up eating it on a binge eating spree. Start by including the macronutrients first. These are proteins, carbohydrates and fats. The fats that are not digested settle on your stomach causing deposits. Carbohydrates do not take part in this process, but if they are not digested, then they turn into fats.

It is important to know that carbohydrates give you a lot of energy for a small period of time. Unless your stomach digests the food within the time, it settles as fat. Proteins on the other hand are not energy giving foods. These are absorbed to strengthen the body’s bones and muscles. Proteins are digested slowly and can thus improve your resting metabolism. So, in order to effect good dieting, you must include a lot of protein in your meal plan.

So start your diet plan today. Go to a dietician and pick out your ideal diet plan. Keep your expectations realistic and your motivation high. In no time, you will start seeing some really rapid changes in your appearances and your fitness.
