Beautiful looking locks are those that drive many people whether men or women. The latest fashion magazine will tell you that it is easy to get that special look by using their professional hair dressing tips but unfortunately, we are not professionals. We need some easier things to try to get that beautiful head of hair we have wanted for so long.

Not only will you look good, you will feel good about doing it for yourself. It might be just what you need to make yourself into a completely new person and certainly will save you time.

Be Approachable

If you work in a high-end salon, or want to make sure your own clients have a high-end experience, be approachable. Not everyone feels comfortable talking to a stranger about their hair, even if that person is a professional. Regardless of your personal style and type of dress, smile and always be warm toward your clients.

People will notice and clients of fellow hairdressers or walk-ins will gravitate towards you because you're approachable. Do the same when you're not at work, out running errands or having dinner with friends. After all, a potential client can pop up anywhere.

Listen to Your Client

Whether it's a new client or someone who has seen you for years, it is important to listen to her. Don't take loyal clients for granted. Clients want to feel pampered and special. Always ssk what they'd like done to their hair and offer feedback. If the client feels they're in a hair rut, offer advice without being overbearing. Perhaps show the client a few images of hairstyles or colors they may like, and say something like, "A lot of people are wearing their hair like this," rather than telling them their hairstyle is outdated.

Hairdressing is an artistic craft; therefore you must develop your artistic ability. Hairdressing is a business where you are trying to enhance the client’s appearance. From an artistic point of view a hairstyle is an expression of form, shape, colour and texture. When creating a look for a client the hairdresser must consider:

  1. The shape of the face, profile, head

  2. Client’s dress and the occasion

  3. The quality and quantity of hair

In Hairdressing you will learn that vertical lines can add height while horizontal lines can add width and make an object appear shorter. Design lines create an optical illusion, and as a trainee you will learn the concepts of design. You will learn how to apply lines, shape, form, and texture when creating the perfect hairstyle for your client.

Hair and fashion go together, and this should be remembered when styling hair. Regardless of fashion trends, there are certain principles and combinations of line, shape and texture hairdressing must adhere to.

The hairdresser’s aim is to create a hairstyle which is designed to enhance the client’s features and complement the occasion.
