Losing one’s hair has always been a natural process that takes place every day and a person loses hair regularly to help new ones grow in its place. Hair loss only becomes a problem when the loss of one’s hair is excessive or when more hair is lost and very few are growing in its place. Hair loss is a problem that plagues both men and women and here are some facts about it:
Alopecia is the term that doctors use to address excessive hair loss and baldness.
When a person starts to experience rapid hair loss, he or she may react negatively and feel depressed about their hair loss. This is the most common reaction you will find in men and women since the loss of hair and baldness is often associated with getting old and being unattractive.
There are different kinds of alopecia or hair loss. One of them is the androgenetic alopecia or is also known as male pattern baldness or hair loss that happens along a particular path or pattern. This is prevalent in men, which explains the name since androgens are male hormones, but some women experience this type of hair loss as well.
Tinea capitis is a fungal infection of the scalp that makes a person lose his hair due to fungal growth on the scalp.
Scarring alopecia is hair loss where the hair follicles are destroyed, and traction alopecia is hair loss that comes from too much manipulation of the hair.
