Coloring hair at home seem to be the next best logical thing to do since getting it professionally done can cost you a lot of money. With these tips on coloring at home, surely you will be able to get the look you want with fewer mistakes.

Coloring your hair is perhaps the quickest and most dramatic way to change your look. It is also an excuse to go out and buy a new wardrobe of clothes, because you'll find that what suited you as a brunette looks rather drab on a new blonde.

Hair coloring tips

  2. Wash your hair. A good kind of shampoo to use is one that removes the pollutants of your hair. Do not conditioning and do not use a shampoo/conditioner mixtures available in single bottle. Conditioner will interfere with the dye bonding to your hair.

  3. If your scalp is soft and sensitive or your hair damaged or dry, wait about a day after washing to bleach or use permanent dye.

  4. While coloring:

  5. Follow the mixing instructions exactly as given.

  6. Use protective gloves and an old towel, especially when you are new to hair coloring.

  7. To keep the dye off your skin, you could put creamy gel like Vaseline around your hairline and it's better don't get it in your hair though, or it will unnecessarily bother your hair coloring process.

  9. To make your coloring to last longer, rinse your hair in lemon based solution immediately after dyeing. This raises the strength of the hair color.

  10. Another tip is to add two spoons of hair color to your regular conditioner after each shampoo. Leave it on three to five minutes and rinse it with warm water. This replenishes the color that was washed out.

  11. Bleaching your hair roots is required after shampooing.

How to Care for Your Colored Hair?

To care for your color treated hair use these hair care tips. Wash your hair with shampoo that has been especially made for colored hair. If you don't have such a shampoo, then stick to mild shampoos for washing your hair. Colored hair start fading when exposed too much to sun. Hence, avoid exposing your hair to sun, use scarves, hats or umbrella to protect your hair. You can also use a leave in conditioner which contains sunscreen, this will help protect your hair against color fade due to sun exposure.

Before swimming in a chlorine treated pool, wash your hair with spring water, this will dilute the harsh chemicals effect. When your hair are wet, don't use a brush. For untangling wet hair, use a hair care product like serum on your hair first and then comb with a wide tooth comb to get rid of tangles.
