The financial crisis notwithstanding, India has doubled the total number billionaires this year with the number jumping to 52 in 2009 from 27 in the previous year.
Mukesh Ambani has topped the Forbes Rich list of Indian billionaires with a net worth of $32 billion. Steel baron Lakshi Mittal is next with a net worth of $30 billion.
Rounding off the top three is Mukesh's estranged brother Anil Ambani with an estimated net worth of $17.5 billion. Others in the top 10 include Azim Premji of Wipro, steelmakers Ruia brothers, real estate baron KP Singh and telecom tycoon, Sunil Mittal.
Equally interesting is the fact that the combined net worth of India's 100 wealthiest people is roughly $276 billion. This is about a quarter of India's GDP and greater than China's 100 wealthiest.
