, most of the people opt for Drupal. This is because Drupal offers a plethora of features that enhance the functionality of a website and makes it fare better on search engine results. With every new version of Drupal, the new and advanced features are added. Discussed below are the factors involved in upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7.</p>
<p>One of the issues that may seem perplexing while upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 is- how to set the active trail for nodes and pages that do not have menu items. The Drupal 6 had no such problems as it has the popular Menu Trails module. However, the problem is that Menu Trail does not have a Drupal 7 port. And what makes things even more complicated is the Drupal core bug related to the active trail issue.</p>
<p>The Menu Block and Menu Position are helpful to certain extent but they are not so effective in providing the desired results. Both of these are under active development. If you go through the code, you will find out that Menu Block has a function menu_block_fix_custom_menus() that handles setting the Drupal core variable menu_default_active_menus with information about the active menus on the site.</p>
<p>If you have a new website that is built on Drupal 7, you would not have any problems with this. However, if you are one of those upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7, then your main navigation menus are likely called "primary-links" and "secondary-links".  As a result, the second check in the “if statement” is going to return false, and then your primary links menu would not get added to the active menus variable.</p>
<p>Thus these are the few areas of concern when it comes to upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7. You can also use the Execute PHP block provided by Devel, build the menu_default_active_menus array yourself, then set it with variable_set(). Make sure you follow the right steps while upgrading.
