Itch is an intense, distracting irritation or tickling sensation that elicits an urge to scratch the skin. Pruritus is the medical name of itching. Itching can be localized to certain areas of your body or all over your body. Here are the causes and remedies to get rid of itching all over body.

  1. Exposure or contact with chemicals

Home Remedies for Itching

  1. Dust the affected area with cornstarch. Alternatively, some cornstarch can be poured in the bath water as well.

  2. In the bath water, add 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. This would work well to provide relieve from itching.

  3. Apply cold compress to the affected area. This is likely to reduce the itchiness caused.

  4. A good remedy to get relieved from itchiness would be to apply fresh stinging nettle oil on the affected area. Otherwise, drink 1 to 2 cups of Nettle tea daily. For this, add 1 tsp of the dried nettle leaves in a cup of boiling water. Allow it to steep for 15 minutes.

  5. Soak 2 large handfuls of fresh chickweed in water. When the plant softens, cool it and apply on the affected area.

  6. Taking bath with lukewarm water is also beneficial in treating the problem of itching.

  7. Include foods rich in Vitamin C, beta-carotene, Vitamin E and zinc in the diet.

  8. Take honey and cinnamon powder in equal proportions. Make a fine paste out of it and apply this on the affected area. This would stop itching.

  9. In a bathtub filled with water, add a cup of white vinegar. Soak the body for 5 to 10 minutes.

  10. Coat the affected area with a light paste of coconut oil and limejuice. This is a good remedy to cure itching.

  11. Mix some baking soda with water. make a paste and apply this on the affected area.

  12. Neem is very useful in treating itchiness. Boil some neem leaves and pour the decoction in the boiling water. Applying neem oil on the affected area is also helpful.

How to Deal with Itch?

  1. Avoid scratching or rubbing over the itchy skin. You must strictly keep your fingernails short to avoid damaging the skin from scratching.

  2. Use lukewarm water for baths and very little soap. Rinse thoroughly and dry your skin completely after baths.

  3. Apply a soothing lotion after bathing to soften and keep your skin cool.

  4. Dry skin is a common cause of itching, so keep your skin well moisturized.

  5. Wear loose clothing of fabrics that will not irritate your skin. The same should be followed with bedclothes.

  6. Avoid prolonged exposure of your skin to heat and humidity.

  7. Apply ice over the itchy area to avoid the urge of scratching.

    My friend always tells me that immediately after he finishes bathing, some parts of his skin begins ti itch. I would like to ask for the cause of this problem and how to treat it?!
