When people think of the Kama Sutra, they normally think of wild sex positions that only a contortionist could achieve. That is not necessarily true. The Kama Sutra was originally intended to be a manual for married. It covered household functions, choices of a spouse, and yes, sexuality as well. The Kama Sutra itself does not cover massage, but massage is part of the spirit of the Kama Sutra. It is meant to promote intimacy between the couple, and it can do the same for you.

Introduction
The first five chapters make up the introductory portion of Mallanaga Vatsyayana's Kama Sutra and describe the three basic priorities and aims that should be sought in life. These three rules include the importance of obtaining education and knowledge, proper conduct of gentlemen and ladies, as well as the necessity to reflect on and perfect a person's means of obtaining, keeping and satisfying oneself and one's lover.

Kama Sutra Tips

It's important to talk and discuss your thoughts on the Kama Sutra with your partner before attempting to follow any of its practices. You need to be open and honest with each other about every aspect of the book. The best way to do this is to sit and read the book together, discussing each point along the way. Reading the book together gives you a chance to discuss it, and it gives you a chance to become familiar with the basic concepts.

It may seem like a silly thought, but it's wise to stretch some before trying to practice any of the techniques involved in the Kama Sutra. The positions and moves you will be practicing are closely related to yoga. You will learn how to use different muscles in new ways and be given a healthy workout. As with any other deep stretching exercise, your muscles need to be warmed up and limber for best results.

Always choose a flat, strong and stable surface to practice Kama Sutra techniques. Unless you're both yoga masters, you and your partner are probably going to be clumsy for the first few tries. You're going to need that stable and flat surface to help you keep your balance. A bed with a standard mattress will work, but stay off any waterbeds until you've had some practice.

Remember, it's important to enjoy yourself when practicing Kama Sutra techniques. Let go of your ego and insecurities to really be in the moment. Pay attention to your mind and body. Remain open and honest with your partner so that the experience can evolve into a deeper understanding of each other.

Be Alert

Most important of all, pay attention to your partner's reactions. This will help you find out what type of touch your partner likes. Focus on her body as a whole. You may be surprised at what you discover; the spot in the middle of your partner's back may be an arousal point you did not know about. Encourage him or her to tell you what feels good. Also, pay attention to the things your partner does not say out loud--a sudden relaxing of a muscle or a contented sigh will tell you that you are on the right path. Your partner's conscious and unconscious communication with you is really all you have to go on, so make the most of it.
