A Hindu pilgrim who has not heard about the Kedarnath tour
is quite a rarity. The opportunity for visiting Kedarnath is something that no pilgrims or trekkers would miss.

This town, which is visited by lakhs of pilgrims every year, is situated in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Nestled in the Rudraprayag district, the main attraction is the divine Kedarnath Temple.

Many devotees of Lord Shiva throng Kedarnath Temple to get a glimpse of the deity. This temple, which is considered a part of the Char Dham, is quite an architectural wonder, albeit being built in the eighth century by Adi Sankaracharya. The inner walls of the temple are adorned with figures of various deities.

At Kedarnath, there are several Kunds (pools, tanks) that are known for their religious significance - Shivkund, Retkund, Hanskund, Udakkund, Rudhirkund are the most important.

The temple remains open only for a period of six months. It opens in April end or first week of May and closes on October end or first week of November. Due to the heavy snowfall in the winter, the temple is covered with snow and no one stays in Kedarnath. During the peak seasons, obtaining a room in Kedarnath hotels can be tough, and you might need to take up accommodation at Rishikesh or other towns that are located near Kedarnath. There are very few hotels in Kedarnath like The Char Dham Camp, Hotel Punjab Sindh, GMVN Tourist Bungalow and Himachal House. These are essentially just small guest houses that have basic rooms with essential amenities.

Usually, devotees travel from all over the world to Delhi. They then travel from Delhi to Kedarnath
, which is the nearest metro city. The town is accessible in two ways. One is by foot for the steep 14 km trek from Gaurikhund (where the hotels are present) through a paved path (horses and palanquins are available for rent) during which the beauty of the Himalayas can be savoured and another is through the helicopter service.

The [helicopter to Kedarnath] (http://www.mustseeindia.com/Kedarnath)service is available to pilgrims from Agastya Muni, about 20 km away from Rudraprayag. The complete helicopter tour gives the pilgrims gives the most magnificent view and an experience that one will not forget very fast. A view of the Himalayas from the helicopter can be breathtaking with the snow-capped mountains and rivers flowing at the foot of the mountains, and this mode can be a time-saving option for the devotees too.
