Kidney stones are a common cause of blood in the urine (hematuria) and often severe pain in the abdomen, flank, or groin. Kidney stones are sometimes called renal calculi.</p>
<p>The kidney acts as a filter for blood, removing waste products from the body and making urine. It also helps regulate electrolyte levels that are important for body function. Urine drains from the kidney through a narrow tube called the ureter into the bladder.</p>
<p>When the bladder fills and there is an urge to urinate, the bladder empties to the outside through the urethra, a much wider tube than the ureter.</p>
<p>Kidney stones are formed from five known substances — calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, struvite, uric acid, and lastly cystine.  The overwhelming majority of kidney stones suffers will have calcium oxalate or calcium phosphate stones (in the 75 to 80 percent range).<br />
Struvite kidney stones are much rarer and are particularly associated with urinary tract infections.  Uric acid stones and cystine stones are even rarer than struvite stones and are generally caused by metabolic abnormalities.</p>
<p>Kidney stones (renal lithiasis) are small, hard deposits that form inside your kidneys. Kidney stones are made of mineral and acid salts. Kidney stones have many causes.</p>
<p>In one common scenario, kidney stones form when the urine becomes concentrated, allowing minerals to crystallize and stick together.</p>
<p>Passing kidney stones can be painful. The pain of a kidney stone typically starts in your side or back, just below your ribs, and moves to your lower abdomen and groin. The pain may change as the kidney stone moves through your urinary tract.</p>
<p>Kidney and bladder stones are formed from the usual chemicals found in the urine, such as uric acid, phosphate, calcium, oxalic acid, and many more. Too little vitamin A or too much vitamin D because of over activity of the parathyroid glands may also produce kidney stones.</p>
<p><strong>Home Remedies for Kidney Stones</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Boil two figs in a cup of water and drink it first thing in the morning.</li>
<li>Eat watermelon either as a fruit or as its juice. It is very effective home remedy for kidney stones.</li>
<li>Take one cup radish leaves juice twice a day. It is also good natural remedy for kidney stones.</li>
<li>Make one glass of fresh Tomato juice by adding a pinch of salt and pepper to and drink it the first thing in the morning.</li>
<li>Kidney beans (dried French beans or Rajmah) are very effective home remedy for kidney stones. Remove the beans from inside the pods, then slice the pods and put about sixty grams in four litre of hot water, boiling them slowly for six hours. This liquid should be strained through fine muslin and then allowed to cool for about eight hours.</li>
<li>Take celery regular if you are prone to getting stones in the kidneys or gall-bladder. It will prevent future stone formation.</li>
<li>Eat apples regularly. It is very effective kidney stones natural remedy.</li>
<li>Eat grapes as it is also very effective home remedy for kidney stones.</li>
