Liver care cannot be ignored, healthy liver is essential for proper functioning of the liver. If you do not have a healthy liver all the body functioning gets disturbed because liver is the most effective organ of the body.
Liver functioning gets disturbed because of harmful infectious particles, liver damages caused due to accidents, severe illness, and inadequate rest.
Liver plays a crucial role in removing toxicants or unwanted substances introduced in the body by long chemical-based medicines. Liver care is very important otherwise all the metabolic activity of the body gets disturbed and damaged liver means a great loss.
Functions of the Liver
Liver plays a major role for maintaining a normal blood glucose concentration. It helps in the process called as Gluconeogenesis (synthesis of new glucose) and also on storage of glycogen, so that during fasting, our body derives glucose from stored glycogen in liver which helps maintain a proper blood sugar levels.
It helps in formation of lipoproteins. These lipoproteins (LDL) which transport regular cholesterol to muscles and other tissues to provide energy, while lipoprotein (HDL) brings unused cholesterol from tissues and muscles and deposit it back to liver which in turn help maintaining healthy cholesterol levels in our body. Also helps in synthesis of cholesterol.
The dietary protein enters liver as amino acids and is taken up by liver for production of plasma protein and formation of urea. This along with glycogen helps for gluconeogenesis especially during fasting.
Liver also helps in storage of vitamins specially A, D and B12.
It also helps in storage of iron in the form of Ferritin.
Liver helps in the formation of coagulation factors, during tissue bleed these factors help in stoppage of bleeding.
Liver plays an important role in excretion of drugs and other substances, also helps in metabolizing 90% of ingested alcohol.
Liver Care Tips
Drink lemon water every morning as it is beneficial for liver. Lemon strengthens the functioning of liver and helps you digest your food by helping your liver produce more bile.
Drink a combination of vegetable juice like spinach (palak) and carrot in the equal amount at least 3-4 days per week. This helps in detoxification of the liver.
Dandelion (Kanphul) acts as a stimulator and helps the liver in proper utilization of fats in the body. It also helps in the detoxification of the liver. The juice extracted from dandelion is one of the most useful medicines to take proper care of the liver.
Neem has purification properties and can decrease toxicity levels in your liver and bloodstream. It can also decrease unnecessary bile secretions.
Garlic is also very beneficial for liver. 3 cloves of garlic daily are very important for a person with weak liver.
Bitter gourd (Karela) can be used for detoxification, blood purification and liver care as well.
Always cover your skin with long sleeves, gloves, a hat and a mask, when using insecticides, paint and other toxic chemicals at home. Also make sure you have good ventilation, and wash off any chemicals you get on your skin with soap and water as soon as possible. Your liver can be damaged by what you breath or absorb through your skin.
Liver Care Diet
Eat protein rich foods like eggs, pulses, and fish in your diet for maintaining healthy liver. Eat less fatty, less oily foods as they are unhealthy for you and your liver.
For proper functioning of the liver you need to take a balanced diet rich in different vegetables, fruits and proteins. Eat green vegetables and fruits like cucumber, carrots, palak, spinach, and papaya in your regular diet.
Vegetables like cabbage, sprouts, mushroom, tomatoes, beans, beet, karela (bitter gourd) neem (margosa) are very good and healthy for protecting liver disease. These vegetables help in detoxifying the whole system, they contain necessary minerals and vitamins for maintaining healthy liver. Eat small meals as they are easily digested and create less trouble for liver functioning. Do not eat deep fried refined flour products as they harm your liver and its functioning.
