Discovered by a British man almost three hundred years ago, this hill station has witnessed massive changes over the years. Earlier it was home to many British officers who enjoyed the cool climate and made it their summer retreat. They built roads, bungalows, churches with the help of local labor and convicts from other countries.</p>
<p>The climate was favorable to grow lots of berries and vegetables, and so the British brought with them strawberries and planted them here. Mahabaleshwar is now famous for its strawberry fields and is popularly known as Land of Strawberries. There are many interesting tourist spots here. When the British left, they sold their huge mansions and bungalows to the locals who decided to turn them into heritage hotels as tourists began to pour in throughout the year.</p>
<p>There are two fine heritage hotels in Mahabaleshwar. They are The Fredrick Hotel and the Pratap heritage hotel. The Fredrick heritage hotel is truly one of the finest hotels in this hill station. Situated on Panchgani Road, it is in easy reach to the airport, railway station and bus station. This lavish mansion has a number of rooms that ooze with comfort and luxury. The architecture is Victorian and all the rooms are tastefully decorated.</p>
<p>Each of the rooms has a private verandah where guests can enjoy viewing the endless landscape sipping a warm drink. Every room has a color television with 24 hour satellite channels, hot/cold running water, telephone, room service and laundry at the door step. Guests can indulge in vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes at their dining facility. The mansion is surrounded by greenery and spacious gardens with immaculate lawns with flower beds of every conceivable color.</p>
<p>The other notable hotel of heritage value among Mahabaleshwar hotels  is Pratap Heritage. This also was a magnificent mansion that was redecorated and converted to a heritage hotel. This hotel is in Valley View Road. This plush heritage hotel has 36 rooms which have been tastefully decorated and fitted with antique furniture.</p>
<p>Living in any of the rooms will take the guests a hundred years back. Every conceivable amenity is provided to guests of this hotel during their stay here. Guests are treated with respect. Foodies will enjoy dining at their dining facility as their dishes are scrumptious and delightful.
