Cramps are a reality for most teens and women in their 20s and early 30s. They are caused by strong uterine contractions triggered by prostaglandins. These strong contractions cause the blood supply in the uterus to temporarily shut down and then increase the contractions and pain.

The root cause of painful menstrual cramps is lack of oxygen during ovulation. The uterine is a muscular organ. Every month the ovary releases an egg into the fallopian tube where it travels into the uterus.
Menstrual cramps take their toll on women. Several options are available to treat cramps that help to decrease the disabling pain and discomfort that some women suffer with each month. Healthy diet rich in vitamin, calcium, minerals should be taken regularly. Any kind of iron rich foods are very useful during this time. Calcium is noted to prevent any kind of menstrual cramps and keeps the muscle strong from back pain. Adding more whole grains, beans, fresh fruit and vegetables, and brewer's yeast to their diet have been found to be helpful to many women.
Although menstrual cramping is expected as long as the woman will have her monthly menstruation, having these pains can still be prevented. Aside from medicines and foods, there are many other ways that can help a woman alleviate menstrual pain. A warm bath, for instance, can help the body unwind and relax. It is a known fact that stress can only aggravate the pain. Although not all of these natural remedies for menstrual cramps are right for all people, they have all been proven in various studies and research to be effective at stopping menstrual cramps and menstrual pain.
