Depending upon what muscles are affected and where it is located, will determine what type of pain management you will need. Muscle spasms can also occur through sudden contractions of an orifice, this is sometimes related to colic. Colic occurs through spasms in the smooth muscle in particular muscles, such and the throat.</p>
<p>A contraction can occur when a muscle is held in a shortened (contracted) position for long periods. It can also occur from being over-stretched. Muscles like to be in neutral, balanced states. You can rub an ice cube over the sore region using a slow, circular motion. It takes a few minutes to numb the pain. Once the area numbs and relaxes due to the cold, fresh blood rushes to the area, which helps unclench the muscle fibers.</p>
<p>Just be sure to keep the ice moving, and use a gentle massaging motion. There are mini-brains in the spine that can also signal muscles to contract or relax temporarily. But after the spinal reflex is finished, the muscle will return to the last instructions the brain gave.) Muscles relax for good only when the brain commands them to relax.</p>
<p>Depending on the muscle group, these spasms have varying degrees of severity. For example, a leg cramp or neck cramp caused by overexertion or poor posture is certainly different from a heart attack, but they are essentially the same response.
