Polycythemia is a condition in which an increase in the number of red blood cells due to the formation of red blood cells by bone marrow excessive.

Bone marrow blood cell production as a result of the excessive number of blood cells abnormally increase is the name given to the occurrence.

Polycythemia is not congenital, then develop, is a bone marrow disease. All blood cells apply for overproduction. Is a rare disease, often is observed in men under the age of 40 are rarely observed. Why exactly is not known.

Disease develops slowly, usually after 50-60 years can turn into acute leukemia. Increases in the density of blood and increases in the number of platelets, a stroke or heart attack may result in the development. In some patients the ability to create clots and platelets is reduced, bleeding may occur. Risk groups are unknown, it is observed more frequently in Jews.

Cause of Polycythemia:
The risk of polycythemia was found in infants:

Sign & Symptoms :
Polycythemia causes blood becomes thick and causes reduced blood flow velocity when the blood through small vessels. If severe illness, can cause the formation of blood clots in blood vessels. Baby's skin looks reddish or bluish. Babies seem weak, rapid breathing, weak suck reflex and rapid heartbeat.

Treatment :
The main goal of treatment to increase the fluidity of blood, and bleeding is to prevent intravascular clotting.

Necessary measures are taken within 11-15 years no death can occur. The most important cause of death; intravascular clotting stroke or heart attacks are linked. Leukemia may develop in future periods.

Discard blood can help reduce the excess of red blood cells, but also causes decreased blood volume and worsen the symptoms of polycythemia. Because it is a partial exchange transfusion to remove part of the baby's blood and replace it with plasma in the same amount.
