Overall, obese people have relatively lower sperm count than men with normal weight, but still ranked within the normal range. This is between 20 and 150 million sperm per milliliter of semen.

Scientists do not know whether the difference in sperm count between obese and normal men eventually affect fertility. However, the emergence of a possible correlation provides an additional reason for men to always try to have a normal weight.

However, studies have shown that obese men tend to have altered levels of testosterone and other hormones of the reproductive system. In the German study hormone levels were associated with age rather than body weight.

The new cryopreservation methods that would allow the preservation of very small numbers and quantities of semen from further investigation. So far, there are very few published studies on the cryopreservation of small numbers of sperm have been removed surgically from the testis or epididymis. The data we currently have at our disposal does not advocate any of the existing strategies.

The couples who have infertility due to male factor, accounting for 30-40% of the infertile population, azoospermia, covers 10% of these cases. Only 36-64% of sperm "rescued" after testicular biopsy and it also often presents patient mobility and delivers very low sperm count. In addition, multiple testicular biopsies, posed the risk of infection or hematoma at the biopsy site. Therefore, cryopreservation of sperm recovered by surgical methods is a challenge and a necessary strategy when it comes to infertility due to male factor.

What is a semen analysis?

It is the first examination of fertility to make each candidate father and identifies the following:

• Sperm count
• Their mobility
• Morphology if they show signs of operational problems (size-format).

How is it done?

• Giving a semen sample to the clinic or laboratory. The sample is examined under a microscope or in a special analyzer connected to a computer.
• The sample can be taken home in a sterile container and transported in a short period of time (20'-30 ') in the laboratory.
