Anna Hazare is a well acclaimed social activist from India. A former Army soldier in India, Anna is well known and respected for the improvement of ecology and economy of the village of Siddhi Ralegan found in the Ahmednagar district of drought-prone state of Maharashtra.
The old town has morphed into sterile single model of rural development due to their effective methods of water conservation, making the villagers self-sufficient. Previously, the village witnessed alcoholism, absolute poverty and migration to the urban periphery.
Inspired by the unique vision Hazare to save a people without hope, the state government has implemented the Model Village 'scheme' as part of its official strategy. Hazare is now synonymous with rural development in India.
Anna Hazare Kisan Baburao Hazare was born January 15.1940 in Bhingar, Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. The social worker called from a modest family. His father was an unskilled worker and owned 5 acres of arable land.
The adverse agricultural conditions pushed his family into the clutches of poverty and Hazare in 1952 moved to its ancestral home in Ralegan Siddhi.
Today, Anna Hazare is the face of India's fight against corruption. He has taken the fight to the corridors of power and challenged the government at the highest level. The people, the common man and known personalities alike, is based on inflammation of hundreds of thousands.
Anna Hazare for is another battle. And he has fought very few, including some as a soldier of 15 years in the Army in India. He enlisted in 1962 after the Indochina War, when the government urged the youth to enlist in the army.
In 1978, he filed for voluntary retirement from the 9th Battalion of Maratha and returned to Ralegaon Siddhi, a village in drought-prone areas of Maharashtra Ahmadnagar. He was 39 years old.
He revealed that farmers back home struggling and suffering will ask you to pioneer conservation of rainwater that put his small village on the international map as a model village.
The villagers revere him. Thakaram Raut, a schoolteacher in Ralegaon Siddhi said: "Thanks to the agitations of Anna, who has a school, we have electricity, we have development plans for farmers.''
Jan Lokpal Bill Movement
In 2011, Anna Hazare led a movement for the adoption of a strong fight against corruption Lokpal (Ombudsman) Bill in the Indian Parliament. As part of this movement, N.
Santosh Hegde, a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and Karnataka Lokayukta, Prashant Bhushan, senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Justice, along with members of India against Corruption movement developed an alternative bill, called as the bill Jan Lokpal (Popular Ombudsman Bill) with more stringent provisions and greater power to Lokpal (Ombudsman).
Hazare has started a fast unto death April 5, 2011 at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to press for the requirement to form a joint committee of government representatives and civil society to draft a new law with stronger criminal proceedings and the Lokpal and Lokayuktas independenceto (Ombudsmen in the United States), after his claim was rejected by the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh.
The movement quickly attracted attention through various media. It is reported that thousands of people came together to support the efforts of Hazare.
Nearly 150 people present to join in fasting Hazare. He said he would not allow any politician to sit with him in this movement. Many social activists, including Medha Patkar, Arvind Kejriwal and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has lent its support to the hunger strike Hazare and the campaign against corruption.
