The American Heart Association and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that between 15% and 33% of adolescents in the United States alone are overweight.</p>
<p>Teens eat more and exercise less. Unfortunately, the adults in their lives do not often set the best example. It is important to try to establish good nutrition habits at a young age. There are several contributing factors to our ever-expanding teens and their waistbands.</p>
<p>Children who are teased about their weight are more apt to have poor body image, low self-esteem, and symptoms of depression. Everyone wants to have friends but sometimes the obese teen feels isolated and lonely.</p>
<p>Many teens will follow in the footsteps of their parents and lose weight by dieting only to regain that weight, and then some, as they begin a life-long cycle of diet, weight loss, and weight gain. We know that children who are overweight become overweight teens and eventually overweight adults.</p>
<p>There are many negative effects teen obesity can have that will carry throughout their lifetime. It is common for obese teens to have problems with diabetes, sleep apnea, and high blood pressure. But health is not the only thing an obese teen struggles with. Including in some cases anxiety and obsessive compulsive behavior.</p>
<p>An alarming number of obese teens grow up to be obese adults, although it doesn't have to be this way. Many times teens over eat because they are depressed. Openly communicating with your obese child about the problem will allow you to work a plan that is attainable.</p>
<p>Teens need to understand the basic principals of healthy eating. Too little can a danger to their health and too much will lead to weight gain. A balance has to be found between the two, and a good place to start is to avoid those ingredients which are high in saturated fats. If we want a different result for our teens physical fitness then it is critical we change as well.</p>
<p>We must change the little disciplines in life if we want to see true change with our physical fitness. Regular exercise and a healthy diet will result in the body burning more calories than it is consuming, which is the bedrock of all weight loss diets. The sooner in an overweight teens' life this can be taken up the better, as obesity needs to be dealt with at an early stage in order that the bad habits don't become an unfixable way of life.</p>
<p>Weight problem typically weighs at the back of their mind, which makes them introverts. This makes the teen stressed and leads to severe complications such as stress and mental illness. If you are concerned about your teen's health because of obesity, make an appointment NOW with your teen's physician.</p>
<p>Often, hearing the same things from the doctor that your teen has heard from you will make more of an impact. The fundamental factors that contribute to obesity are the lack of physical activity, unhealthy eating habits, genetics or a combination of each.</p>
