Kutch
A visit to the Kutch region of Gujarat is one way of adding more color to your India travel. The tribal villages here give tourists a taste of a certain distinct lifestyle and culture, which is very different from that seen in India’s many urban metropolises. Some of the hand-embroidered bed linen and other handicrafts produced by the local artisans are indeed impressive.
Wildlife sanctuaries in the region provide a glimpse of the endangered Indian Wild Ass and other animals. The Lalit Mahal Palace in Mandvi allows a peek into the lives of the royal families of yore. Resorts and cottages modeled along the lines of tribal hutments are available for accommodation in this place.
Udaipur
Tucked away in Rajasthan in the northwestern section of the country, Udaipur is best known for its old palaces which have now been converted into luxury heritage hotels. The City Palace and the Lake Palace are two of these, and they have even been used as venues for a number of celebrity weddings.
Udaipur is also known for its many scenic lakes. One of the most famous among these is Lake Pichola in the midst of which the Lake Palace is built.
The Bharatiya Lok Kala Museum and the Maharaja’s Vintage and Classic Car Collection are other places that are worth exploring in Udaipur during your India travel
. Parts of Udaipur have also been featured in the James Bond film ‘Octopussy’.
Ajanta and Ellora Caves
Located near Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, the Ajanta and Ellora caves have for long enthralled tourists who travel to India. The caves of Ajanta are associated with Buddhism and are known for their exquisite murals painted using vegetable dyes.
The caves at Ellora are also decorated with paintings and sculptures. While some of these are associated with Buddhism, others are associated with Hinduism or Jainism. One of the most magnificent structures here is the Kailasa temple which is said to be carved from a single mass of rock.
The Ajanta and Ellora caves have been recognized as World Heritage Sites.
Goa
The tiny state of Goa has for long been associated with fun and frolic, music and celebration and a certain free-spirited attitude to life. You can explore the beaches here, ride around the green countryside, laze around with a mug of beer or dig into some authentic Goan food. For those interested in delving into the history of the place and its past as a Portuguese colony, Old Goa is the place to head to.
The places in western India can interest and excite every tourist, ranging from the fun seeking adventurer to the history buff. Plan a trip to the west – you’ll never regret it.
