Vivekananda Reddy May Be Shifted To Hyderabad
The entire Kadapa district erupted into protests after the Congress MP L Rajagopal in Vijaywada, Congress MLC Y S Vivekananda Reddy, who had on indefinite hunger strike here in support of united Andhra Pradesh, was arrested. He is right now in the RIMS hospital. But he is refusing treatment. There are indications that the government is planning to shift him to Hyderabad.
Vivekananda, a Congress MLC and brother of former Chief Minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, was lifted from his hunger camp by scores of police personnel and was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa town, sources in police said.
Reddy had been on an indefinite fast from December 15 in support of a united Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the district Congress committee and various organisations has called for a 48-hours bandh to oppose Vivekananda's arrest.
Earlier in the day supporters of unified state detained Venkatadri and Rayalaseema Express trains at Kodur railway station and Mumbai-bound Jayanti Express at Kondapuram railway station for over an hour disrupting train services on the line.
In view of rail roko, seven trains passing from Kadapa town were diverted towards Guntakal and Guntur routes.
The protesters also set a telephone exchange at fire in Kondapuram causing heavy damage to equipments, officials said.
