Why Is MIM Sceptical on A Separate Telangana?

As Andhra Pradesh is experiencing the turmoil due to the Telangana crisis one question lingers in many minds. What is the stand of the MIM party on the Telangana issue. MIM claims to represent the viewpoint of Muslims in Hyderabad and Telangana. MIM has been giving some statements since the last few months which would give an indication of their stand on the issue.

MIM is clearly worried about BJP playing an important role in the Telangana struggle. BJP was in favor of separate Telangana since many years. MIM is suspicious of the intentions of the BJP in asking for a separate Telangana. The MIM fears that in case the Telangana separates then the BJP would have an important role to play and they would dominate over the Muslims. It was one of the factors that they sided with the late YSR in opposing separate Telangana state.

The bad experiences between the Razhakars and the Telangana agitationists after the India's independence is not easy to forget. The Razhakars mercilessly killed many innocent people. That bitter experiences between the Razhakars and the Telangana people were somewhat nullified when Andhra and Telangana were joined. The MIM and the ex Nizam's followers found a solace in the Andhra leaders who ruled Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra and the Rayalaseema CMs and ministers were least bothered about that movement and there was no friction at all between them. But if Telangana separates then the MIM fears that the Muslims would be made to suffer under the hands of the Telangana leaders.

There are many muslims in Andhra and the Rayalaseema regions like Kadapa, Ananthapur, Vijayawada, Guntur etc which are against the division and the Muslim leaders from these areas appealed to the MIM recently not to let the state divide.

So the MIM is taking all the above factors into consideration and it still has many misgivings about the formation of Telangana.
